On Friday’s broadcast of NewsNation’s “Cuomo,” Rep. Jonathan Jackson (D-IL) discussed the government shutdown and stated that he thinks that the U.S. Senate “Absolutely” should eliminate the filibuster and let Republicans pass a bill to re-open the government on a party-line vote without Democrats and said, “I could do away with that.”
Host Chris Cuomo asked, “[I]t’s a little bit of a twist, though, right, Representative? Because, yeah, you’ve got the presidency is Republican, the House is Republican, Senate has this hair-thin margin. But because of the filibuster rule, they don’t control it, because, then, the Democrats, who are the minority party, can lock it up whenever they want. And that’s what’s happening right now. Do you think they should get rid of the filibuster? I know it’s not in your branch of the Congress, but you think they should get rid of the filibuster?”
Jackson answered, “Absolutely. I could do away with that.

Government is something to be opposed. Not eased. The Swamp wants business to proceed smoothly because that generates $37T in debt.
In contrast, a stiff filibuster rule requires the country as a whole to approve of things. Not a narrow margin. An overwhelming margin.
And so, best we have the filibuster rule. The fewer bills passed the better, regardless of content.
“”And so, best we have the filibuster rule. The fewer bills passed the better, regardless of content.”””
Yes. Less is better. Our government was designed to have gridlock to slow things down on purpose.
The Fish wants off the Hook.
the Dems have painted themselves in a corner with their own insane leftist base and want the GOP to bale them out ...
absolutely NOT! the Dems will instantly rally their insane leftist base to attack the GOP for eliminating the filibuster!
He’s okay with eradicating the filibuster so that when they get the majority next time then they can ram everything thru. And you know how the Dems stick together.
My thoughts exactly. It’s a trap.
There’s a simple path forward, though: Tell Schumer to take his thumb out of his butt and pass the bill.
Eliminate it as long as republicans are in control then if we lose the senate reinstate it during lame duck session.
They were going to do it last time but for Sinema and Manchin.
Yes. Less is better.
I’ll echo this one.
They didn’t like bigballs, so let the democrats be the ones to choose who to DOGE off the payroll. That’s what we voted for.
I shudder to think what would happen if democrats controlled the Senate by a few seats and the R’s couldn’t filibuster. It would be bye bye Republic.
So... No.
Is anybody really missing the govt being open anyway? Don’t worry, the dems will get us up and running and spending us into the poorhouse again in no time. They can’t live without it.
That’s a bad idea. We do not want to remove any hurdles to the further consolidation of power. In fact, we should want the very opposite of that and restore much of the power the federal government unconstitutionally usurped from the states.
