President Trump on Friday said the ongoing layoffs of furloughed federal workers amid the government shutdown will be “Democrat-oriented.”
“And it will be Democrat-oriented, because we figure, you know, they started this thing,” he said in the Oval Office about the firings and shutdown. “It’ll be a lot.”
The administration offered no specifics on which agencies or how many people would be affected when it announced the layoffs earlier Friday. But at least 4,100 government employees were already laid off. Here is The Hill’s list of agencies affected so far.
The Senate voted against the House GOP bill to open the government Thursday, and the chamber later left for the Columbus Day weekend. The Senate will not return until Tuesday evening.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) rebuffed calls Friday morning to bring the House back to Washington, D.C., telling reporters that lawmakers needed to be at home to assist their constituents amid the government shutdown.

A real actual adult is in charge. Consequences. Accountability. FAFO.
‘Employees in the EPA’s Resource Conservation and Sustainability Division received an email indicating the agency would be undertaking a RIF. Between 20 and 30 EPA employees were told that they may be affected by a RIF in the future.’
really 20 or 30 *maybe* fired in the EPA? doesn’t sound like much yet against 10’s of thousands of gov’t employees. hope this picks up soon.
Outside the military and perhaps some first responders such as park rangers or forest fire fighters are there ANY Republicans in government?

There are quite a lot of Republican career people in the federal government. You’ll find them at Commerce, Energy, Agriculture, Homeland Security, Treasury, and the FAA. Fewer at departments like State and HHS. Way more than you’d think at the DOJ (at least there used to be).
Abso”freakin”lutely, Mr. President.
I used to be at the NMFS in NOAA. I don’t recall any other Republican. That was around 1990, it might be different now
Layoff Schumer. He’s a skunk.
i’d check the voter registration of every government employee and fire any and all registered Democrats.
I’ve NEVER had any of my reps [alleged Senators, nor House Rep.] help about the home [house, garage or yard].
Who gets the personal attention?
You’re assuming way too much when it comes to fed gov.
I think you’re very optimistic.
Where I’m from, the County LE (Sheriff & deputies) are 90%+ Repub, while the City LE are Dems. This was statewide (Texas).
I don’t know what it is like anymore.
EPA got a 23% haircut in this year from 16,155 in January 2025 to 12,448 by mid-year. It’s a good start.
EPA does not provide employment data for its divisions.
Case 1: A RIF of 20-30 in the RCSD could be ~2% if it has 1,000–1,500 staff (a plausible scale based on the broader Office of Resource Conservation and Recovery’s historical size of several hundred across its divisions).
Case 2: If the RCSD is smaller (say, 200–500 people), it could represent 5–15% instead.
Case 1 is “who cares. Nobody will miss the dead wood.”
Case 2 is “Yes!! MORE!!”
better than an ‘environmental’ kick in the head i guess.
Bushes and Nixon sure killed us.
AOC will take care of that in 2028.
