President Trump announced Friday he will raise tariffs on China in response to a move from Beijing to tighten its control over certain critical minerals and rare earth elements.
Trump announced on Truth Social that he would impose a tariff of 100 percent on Chinese goods beginning Nov. 1 or sooner. Those tariffs will supersede existing duties already in place on Chinese goods.
The president said his administration would also place export controls “on any and all critical software.”
“It is impossible to believe that China would have taken such an action, but they have, and the rest is History,” Trump posted.
China announced this week that foreign entities must obtain a license in order to export any products containing more than 0.1 percent of rare earths that are either sourced in China or manufactured using the country’s extraction process. China controls roughly 70 percent of the world’s rare metals and earths.

Send all the Chinese students home with no tuition refunds.
Yes, since it is American citizens who pay those tariffs, not China. I don’t support his tariff tactics.
The best possible outcome.
You tried to invade China?
In the fiscal year 2024, there were 46,680 H-1B visa approvals for Chinese citizens, making up about 11.7% of the total H-1B approvals. The majority of these visas are typically issued for roles in technology and engineering sectors.

Cancel every one of those visas.
Please, go to China where you belong.
It is going to get a lot more than just interesting.
Good thing the stock market is closed until Tuesday; maybe the impacts will be lessened then if, as expected, Trump and Xi Jinping announce they will meet to sort it all out.
As of the 2023/24 academic year, there are approximately 277,398 Chinese students studying in the United States on student visas

Get em outta here.
I think it will be open.
American citizens who pay for goods purchased from...and enriching China. To hell with the Chinese! Ultimately, it is China who suffers from the idling of their factories, workers and congested ports. This has been brewing for too long. We finance and contribute to the CCP. Thank God for Donald Trump!
Good thing the stock market is closed until Tuesday;
The stock market is not closed on Monday. Stocks will trade as usual.
Tariffs are causing devaluation of U.S. dollar, and that has been good for holders of gold - esp. China and Russia.
China does not need the U.S. as a customer. All gas and oil that China needs, are satisfied by India, Russia, and Venezuela.
Probably. My guess is that Xi is trying to get a better trade deal. So they'll figure out something in a week or two.
Tariffs are a ruse.
Wrong. China eats the tariffs. They did in 2017 and announced the same now.
Good. China is our foriegn enemy.
In case you’ve missed it, inflation has gone down during Trump’s term despite any tariffs he’s implemented.
That is what I don’t get. For six months, the economic “experts” have all been telling us tariffs will cause widespread inflation. I haven’t seen it. In fact, when it comes to groceries, my costs have been going down.
According to all official reports, inflation has come down since Trump was elected.
Companies seem to be absorbing the costs in order to maintain their market share.
