Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) joined MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle this week to discuss President Donald Trump’s plan to create TrumpRX, a government-run website offering discounts on select prescription drugs.
Paul, a libertarian leaning Republican, pulled no punches in criticizing Trump’s willingness to intervene in the free market and even went so far as to compare the Trump administration to self-identified socialist New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.
Paul shared his interview on X and wrote, “If you’re going to criticize the socialist Mamdani for wanting to own grocery stores, you better criticize Republicans who want a share of Intel, of Nvidia, or U.S. Steel. Owning even part of the means of production is a step toward socialism. It’s a bad idea and a dangerous precedent.”

Did congress appropriate the funds for this?
“””Paul, a libertarian leaning Republican,”””
They spelled Jay Goff wrong.
I am a bit nervous about it and the whole idea of a Sovereign Wealth Fund. If the lefties actually know anything about anything here is their scall to cry FASCISM !
Yes he is. This is no bueno
This seems completely misleading.
As I understand it, the website only puts people in touch with the drug companies. The government isn’t ‘providing’ drugs, and the drug companies are involved voluntarily.
I’ve tried to like Rand Paul, but increasingly he has seemed like a fussbudget.
A more accurate comparison would be with other nations’ sovereign funds, investments of public monies in securities of various sorts. Norway is a prime example. Saudi is another one. Neither involves the government trying to run the companies, as a socialist Mamdani would. Even so, I’m agnostic about the desirability of this. Wait and see what happens, I guess..
Correct.
In Communism the State owns all the corporations. Just 10% of shares can end up being the largest shareholder and controlling interest in a corporation.
The State taking over Corporations is right in the Communist playbook.
Bill Clinton proposed the same thing during one of his SOTU speeches.
Government involvement in the markets could easily veer off into misuse of funds to favor corporations which make poor decisions.
Case in point Volkswagen, partly owned by Lower Saxony. They consistently make the least reliable cars on the market.
What would they fund? Setting up a website?
“The Government should own the means of production.”
Discuss.
***ducks!***
Gee, there is a government run website where I get my drugs for free. It’s called the VA, at va.gov.
Rand Paul is irrelevant
He muddies the water for the Dems, and does little else but occasionally pontificate.
Lol welcome back I havent’ seen you here for a while
I saw your post in my thread on COVID. Provocative as usual
But this is the world we live in.
Rand is a purist. And their input is valuable but needs tempering.
He is chairman of homeland security and a senior United States Senator who represents a state where millions voted for him and holds public office
Not that irrelevant
Here is the problem
RINO Trump deranged non loyalists like this creepy little man do not ever come out and say the same critical things against country destroying democrat politicians
So he can shut up
From the same state that elected mASSie and the turtle.
Name something the Rand has actually accomplished...other than whining about everything.
