Citing deteriorating conditions in Oregon, President Donald Trump said Wednesday the National Guard is in place to protect Immigration and Customs Enforcement efforts.
Trump announced Saturday he would send troops to Portland, the state's largest city, to handle what he called "domestic terrorists." He said protests were interfering with enforcement of immigration law.
"As I determined on September 27th, when I activated and called into service the National Guard in Oregon, conditions continue to deteriorate into lawless mayhem," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
"Our GREAT Federal Law Enforcement Officers have not been able to enforce the Laws in Oregon. ANTIFA and the Radical Left Anarchists have been viciously attacking our Federal Law Enforcement Officers, men and women who are simply doing their job, protecting Federal Property, and enforcing Federal Immigration Laws and the Rule of Law.
"We will never allow MOBS to take over our streets, burn our Cities, or destroy America. The National Guard is now in place, and has been dedicated to restoring LAW AND ORDER, and ending the Chaos, Death, and Destruction! We are a Nation of LAW, and we will PREVAIL."
Trump didn't mention Portland in his post, and Newsmax reached out to the White House for comment. Demonstrators had reportedly gathered in front of an ICE building in Portland since June to protest the Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigration.

It may not be 1970, but the MSM is still slanted and aggressive ROE can have some bad optics.
I caught part of a documentary recently, but didn’t have a chance to watch the whole thing. It was made by some lefty and was actually complaining that LE used unmarked vans to pickup “protesters” in Oregon, and actually complained when they were detained and released, as if not being detained or arrested was some kind of violation of civil rights. If that were the case, even traffic stops where you couldn’t just flee would be a violation of civil rights. These people were heavily masked and even somewhat armored, and LE has the right to ID them.
I think using unmarked vans was smart considering how organized antifa and some of these protest groups are.
But you can’t mow them down in the streets.
They should be methodical.
Just because you are ‘peaceful’ doesn’t mean you get to stay anonymous, and if you become violent, you should be prosecuted.
The west coast states are lead by fruitcakes.
This is why we lose, every time. We're too concerned about "optics", while not understanding the current optics are all lies and BS pushed by the left and their PR arm. None of the current "optics" are true, but that doesn't stop them. Optics be damned. It's about saving our Country.
I heard some of the legacy media apparatchiks last night say Trump is trying to goad them into violence, nothing is wrong. All the violence that we see is merely peaceful protests, west coast style.
