Labour members have voted to accuse Israel of genocide in defiance of Sir Keir Starmer.
Delegates at the Labour Party conference voted in favour of the motion even though the Government’s official position is the Israeli government’s actions do not amount to genocide.
The emergency motion called on the Prime Minister to accept the findings of a recent United Nations report which found that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, and back comprehensive sanctions on Israel and a full arms embargo.
David Lammy, the Deputy Prime Minister, on Sunday accused Left-wing figures demanding the Government declare a genocide in Gaza of seeking to “undermine the rule of law”.
Sir Keir recognised Palestinian statehood on Sept 21 in what critics said was an attempt to appease restless MPs before conference.
The first day of the party’s conference in Liverpool was marred by Palestine Action protests, with more than 60 people arrested outside the conference centre for supporting the unlawful terror organisation.
The motion was tabled by the Public and Commercial Services union. Ben Jamal, its director, said it represented a “demand from the Labour conference for a seismic shift in government policy”.
The motion read: “Conference accepts the findings of the UN Commission of Inquiry and calls on the Labour government to... employ all means reasonably available to it to prevent the commission of genocide in Gaza.”
It also demanded the Government “apply sanctions to put pressure on the Israeli government to respect international law” and “ensure individuals and corporations in the UK are not involved in aiding and assisting the genocide”.
Another motion, which broadly supported the Government’s position on Israel, was also submitted.
Earlier, Yvette Cooper, the Foreign Secretary, said Britain’s decision to recognise the state of Palestine had to be a “spur” for the rest of the world.

Too bad Black Christians in Kenya don’t qualify for “genocide” virtue-signaling, due to leftist racism.
Brits have a history with Israelis.
If Israel wanted to accomplish genocide in Gaza, there would be nothing left alive there.
I accuse the accusers of genocide. Since they’ve twisted the word to meaninglessness, my accusation is spot-on.

Defy Starmer? I suppose that’s the way it has to be officially presented.
But in private Starmer is probably saying “Nice work, ladies!”

Women are too hormonal and too emotional to Lead
Someone needs to remind them what genocide actually means.

I noticed that, too. And it’s hilarious. Britain is a second-rate country rapidly slipping into third-rate territory. Yet they still think that they are a mighty empire. The lion roars, and the world must listen!
(No disrespect meant to the average native Brit.)
It was Hamas who committed genocide against Israel. Israel responded by destroying Hamas.
Well said. A sovereign nation should be expected to defend itself, including neutralizing the prospect of ongoing threats.
Unfortunately the liberal left countries and governments do
not see it that way -
They should be worried about the genocide by muzzies in their own country.
Except for Margaret Thatcher and Golda Meir. But they are exceptions to the rule.
I was on X over the weekend and there is a lot of hate against Israel, calling them war criminals.
Yes when they finally exited Palestine, they left a cache of weapons for the mad Mohammed’s. Their officers joined the Jordanian military so they could kill Jews.
Just saw the PDJT peace list. Don’t agree with a Pali state. But, that’s just me.
