"I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank. Nope, I will not allow it. It's not going to happen," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
"There's been enough. It's time to stop now," he said.
France, Britain, Canada, Australia and Portugal are among the countries that have recognized a Palestinian state in the last few days, in part to help keep the possibility of a two-state solution alive. Israel has condemned the moves.
Trump made the comments as Netanyahu was arriving in New York to deliver an address to the United Nations on Friday.
Netanyahu's office said the prime minister would wait until he returns to Israel to address Trump's remark. Israeli settlements have grown in size and number, opens new tab since Israel captured the West Bank in the 1967 war. They stretch deep into the territory with a system of roads and other infrastructure under Israeli control, further slicing up the land.
A widely condemned Israeli settlement plan known as the E1 project, which would bisect the occupied West Bank and cut it off from East Jerusalem, received final approval in August. It will cut across land that the Palestinians seek for a state.
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, an ultra-nationalist in the ruling right-wing coalition that keeps Netanyahu in power, said at the time that a Palestinian state is "being erased from the table."
Arab and Muslim countries warned Trump during a meeting earlier this week about the grave consequences of any annexation of the West Bank -- a message the U.S. president "understands very well," according to Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud.
About 700,000 Israeli settlers live among 2.7 million Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which Israel annexed in a move not recognized by most countries.

That land belongs to Israel—FOREVER—regardless of what anyone imagines.
...saving Israel for last.
Very specific reason not mentioned a single time.
PDJT couldn’t carry out on that ridiculous “promise” even if he wanted to
its all hot air and PDJT doesn’t do hot air except without a reason. perhaps he has some new positive move underway like how he hot aired just before our planes took the Iranian dictators’ nuclear bomb factories down a notch?
I’m betting on it, he’s a very smart person and a good negotiator (including, as it is, the use of deception)
we will see...
The “Palestinians” should be careful what they wish for. A Palestinian state would be a defined border enemy that can be attacked by Israel the next time the “Palestinians” attack. Gone may be the days of Israel fighting back against a ghost of terrorist cells whose locations are loosely defined.
Sorry Mr. Trump. That land was given by God to Israel, and God is bigger than you, the U.S, and the whole world.
Israel gets a lot of money from America.
Right we give them money (and arms) so we can pretty much say "no" to them.
“”The “Palestinians” should be careful what they wish for. A Palestinian state would be a defined border enemy that can be attacked by Israel the next time the “Palestinians” attack. Very good point. The war would then be so ‘official’ that not even the anti-Israel globalist stooges could deny its validity. Israel would be free in the court of rational public opinion to destroy the “nation of Palestine” after having been attacked, finally.
Which makes me think that it will never be the case (a state of Palestine). And Netanyahu just stated that at the UN today.
It’s Israel’s land...
He could end all financial and military aid to Israel.
He probably won't, but if he did, Israel would quickly reverse its course.
Let’s say that Israel annexes the West Bank. Then what happens to those 2.7 million “Palestinians”?
Do they become Israeli citizens? If so, their votes will ensure that Israel will have nothing but leftist governments forever.
What other possibilities are there?
I believe it’s a fantasy to think Jordan will welcome them with open arms. That just won’t happen.
Israel can do what she wants, but ill be damned if my kids are going to fight for them. Decisions have consequences, and i do not approve of America is not sending blood (and even more) treasure bailing them out yet again.
Maybe this kind of statement is what leads to the doubts about Israels Allie status.
Israel should not have to subject her people to constant barage of missle attacks only playing defense. Their new laser missile defense is promising and cheap to fire but they should be able eliminate the enemy that only will be satisfied with the death of every Jew. You only have to look at their progress in Michigan and Texas to see they have the same plan for us. Islam is a government controlled by Sharia and we better wake up because London has alredy been conquered.
And Israel never kept its half of the bargain.
So that deal is off.
In lieu of which, God sent his Son with a New Covenant promise (which includes no land grants).
United Israel! Judea, Samaria, and Gaza! Take the possession that God gave them.
Israel governs them, but they don't get to vote.
And Israel moves closer to being an apartheid state.
Trump is juggling relationships with the Gulf Arabs, so I get it. Israel is concerned with its survival. So expect a diplomatic dance.
RE: Israel governs them, but they don’t get to vote.
There are 2 million Arabs living in Israel right now and they even have their own political party. What makes these Arabs different from the “Palestinians” ( also Arabs )?
