Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met on Wednesday, one day after President Donald Trump called Moscow a "paper tiger" and said Ukraine could win back its seized land.
Rubio and Lavrov sat with their delegations on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz was also present.
The meeting lasted roughly 50 minutes. Lavrov didn't respond to questions as he left, including whether he was concerned about the shift in tone from Trump or whether the U.S. president had turned his back on Russia.
A spokesperson for Rubio released a short statement after the meeting, only saying that Rubio "reiterated President Trump's call for the killing to stop and the need for Moscow to take meaningful steps toward a durable resolution of the Russia-Ukraine war."
(snip)
Rubio, at a U.N. Security Council meeting on Ukraine on Tuesday, warned there would "come a moment in which we will have to conclude that perhaps there is no interest in a peaceful resolution" from Russia and that Trump's "patience is not infinite."

Lavrov wasn’t a happy camper leaving that meeting.
I like it.
The dynamic has shifted yes.
Russia no longer in charge of its destiny here. Unpredictable things going to happen.
Gas shortages have finally reached Moscow and St Petersburg.
Trump campaigned on ending this war. Continuing our involvement in this war is definitely not MAGA. And don’t say let the Euros fight them because they will drag us in for sure.

Something’s up big time. Would the NATO go in to “restore” the former Ukraine borders if Russia doesn’t agree to stop attacking?
Lavrov made the public statement that Russia and the US are now at war. Now we have an emergency meeting of the generals. Something’s up and it ain’t good.
Don’t think the U.S. isn’t having backchannel conversations with Russia’s oligarchs who want Putin’s invasion ended now.
If we go to war with Russia that’s the end of MAGA.
Don’t know. Something big is afoot for sure
Ukrainian drones just hit the Afipsky Oil Refinery in the Krasnodar region a few minutes ago.
I agree. It’s not good and China might just decide to make a move too.
Maybe there’s intelligence info recently gathered pertaining to both Russia and China.
As much as I don’t like or trust Lavrov he isn’t at all stupid. It is very likely he knows how much trouble Russia is in and that China is about to bite Russia in the ass. I’m also sure he knows that the Russian people and American people are natural allies.
Read the old thriller “The Bear and The Dragon”.
I agree.
No one can trust the CCP.
It would be to Russia’s advantage to be in an alliance with the US because the CCP will attack Russia sooner or later.
The second world baby nations want to keep slaughtering eachother so let rthem.
OK, panican
No need.
All that is needed is a bit of old US tech that the Ukies don't have, to add to their generally quite good drone tech. That would vastly increase the success rate of Ukie drones sent in to hit Russian AD and then their distillation towers. A few "Block 2" (or would it be "Block 3") Flamingo missiles to take out the Kerch Bridge and other critical Russian rail bridges seals the deal.
