The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is setting the record straight after NBC News attempted to once again smear ICE as the agency continues its work enforcing our immigration laws.
Earlier today, NBC News reported that ICE used a five-year-old autistic girl as "bait" to capture her illegal immigrant father.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents held a 5-year-old autistic girl outside her Massachusetts home to pressure her father to surrender to authorities last week, according to the girl's family — an allegation that the Department of Homeland Security strongly disputes.
A video of the incident, obtained by Telemundo Nueva Inglaterra, shows a young girl surrounded by what appears to be several male law enforcement agents outside of her home in Leominster, Massachusetts, last Tuesday.
The girl is sitting beside what appears to be a law enforcement SUV and holding a bottle while encircled by the several men, according to the video.
"They took my daughter, she’s 5-years-old. She has autism spectrum," the girl's mother says in the video. "Give me my daughter back."
This is similar to a story debunked by Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin back in July, when the family of an illegal immigrant claimed he died in ICE custody, then said he'd been secretly deported to Guatemala.
DHS posted a refutation of NBC's claims on X, calling the network's smears "sick."
The entire post reads:
Edwards Hip Mejia, a criminal illegal alien from Guatemala, ignored law enforcement emergency lights and darted inside his house, abandoning his 5-year-old daughter in the car.
Officers helped rescue the child and called local police to report the abandonment.
Stop the smears. Stop the lies.
DHS assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin also denied NBC's version of the story, writing on X, "Absolutely not. ICE agents NEVER used a 5-year-old girl as “bait”—what a disgusting smear. The criminal illegal alien target —with previous arrests for domestic abuse and strangulation, among other charges—ABANDONED his own child in a car. The target, Edwards Hip Mejia, ignored law enforcement emergency lights to pull over and drove back to his house. He fled from the car, gave officers the double middle finger, and darted inside his house. He abandoned his 5-year-old daughter in the car. Officers helped rescue the child and called local police to report the abandonment."
McLaughlin called the smears "disgusting" and blamed the media for the "1000% increase in assaults against our brave law enforcement."
Buried near the bottom of the story, NBC admits the girl was returned to her family once local law enforcement showed up, and that her mother reported the child is "doing well."
Mejia was arrested two days later and is being held in a detention center in Plymouth.
Will the news organization retract and refute the lies they told? Not on your life. There may be a half hearted mention but not in the same time slot or in the same tone as the lie told.
The bloods in the water. The lamestream media and press who have built them selves up as the arbiters of truth have because of there own lapses in morals and character have painted huge targets on their backs. Look at the 2019 Lincoln Memorial confrontation, the suits against the view and many many others.

I will say it again.
We need the FCC to enforce truth and accuracy in reporting, edit as you wish but that editing must be noted and the full text, full video must be available for review. With the internet and cloud storage this is no longer a undo burden and is needed now to stop the wholesale fabrication of news and events.
Corrections or miss statements MUST be given the same amount of play as the WRONG or INCORRECT statements or videos when broadcast the first time, be it 10 minutes, 20 minutes 30 minutes if the media source trumped it MUST be one to one.
If they the media did a 1 hour broadcast that was wrong, incorrect or lies then they must do a second broadcast of 1 hour at the same time slot explaining that they were wrong, incorrect or had lied.
A large banner should be run at the bottom of any video STATING that the SOURCE is unnamed, unverified, if an audio broadcast the statement should be made at the start, at the middle and at the end.
The news media pundits will gnash their collective teeth moaning and groaning and will say this will place a chilling restrain on the freedom of the press. It will not. It will stop them from running head long in to judgment that has elevated numinous numbers of fake stories, staged a hate crimes and out right character assignations accusations that have ruined many innocent lives. They will be forced to fact check diligently because they will be held monetarily and criminally libel for miss-reporting the facts.
Truth in reporting will offer up a shield to the small groups, to individuals, people who have had their lives, liberty’s, property, impacted by incorrect reporting without due process of law. Words and actions have consequences.
If any of this is not done then the FCC should fine and or remove and or suspend broadcast licenses. Keep pushing wrong, incorrect or lies in news stories and have your broadcast rights removed.
We have truth in advertising laws, why no accuracy in reporting laws? There has always been yellow journalism that is based upon sensationalism and crude exaggeration. But with the advent of the internet there is almost no ability to get out in front of even boldfaced lies that are pushed today over and over.
There should be no editing or exerting with out posting the entire text or video or audio on line and if there is no confirmation and the source in unknown or not named. That should be flashed at the beginning and end of that report. If a photo is cropped the original should be also available for review.
For to long the public has been denied the full information, the full story and unfortunately as it has been shown time and time again. The news media’s take on events can no longer be taken at face value because of paid, yes paid partisan behavior and down right bias.
The news media once would state the facts with no taint of partisanship and now all we get is paid partisanship and fascist like bias. News media sources have become extended commercials of talking heads spewing single twisted points of view shouting down all others in a head long rush to try and brain wash the masses.
All you have to do is listen and you will see that they (The news conglomerates, the multi national media empires) no longer are in it for the truth but have become corrupt with power, influence and money.
It’s time to rein them in. If this is not done and done soon the blood in the water will not be a metaphor anymore but a reality. Call someone a radical, a racist, say they are supremacists and other vile erroneous lies you will eventually breed the same thing you rant about. And whoa on to you, when that comes home to roost, heads will not just turn, tongues will not just wag. A real and deadly reckoning will take place and there will be blood.
