Emmanuel Macron was humbled this week after New York City cops stopped his vehicle and forced him to wait on the street to make way for Donald Trump's motorcade.
Footage shows the perplexed French president stranded on a road moments after he left the UN headquarters in the Big Apple on Monday.
'I'm really sorry, Mr President, everything is frozen', a police officer can be heard telling Macron.
The French leader then proceeded to take matters into his own hands, and was shown in a separate video calling his American counterpart on the phone.
'Guess what, I'm waiting in the street right now because everything is frozen for you,' he appears to tell Trump.
But after several minutes of waiting around, the French president was then forced to walk down the street with his body guards after the roads opened, but only for pedestrians.
Footage of the awkward moment involving Macron, who is in New York for the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, has gone viral on social media. Several internet users have commented on the US president's apparent power play.
'That’s not just a mix-up — that’s a power signal. When world leaders get parked so Trump can pass, it tells you everything about who commands respect in the room', one X user wrote.
Another said: 'Macron learns who runs thing in America, even off duty'.
'Humiliating. The French president stuck on the curb while Trump's motorcade rolls like a king's parade', a third commented, while a fourth said: 'This is not an "awkward moment". This is a protocol breach and a serious insult.'
The mishap involving Macron comes after new polling data revealed yesterday that his popularity in France has plunged to an all-time low.

So, his security didn’t bother checking this little excursion out? Hate to say, sound’s like Trump’s own security. But at least NYPD did their duty so high five for them. Still, it is hilarious.

Neither Trump nor Macron would have had anything to do with this. Sounds like a simple fumble. Perhaps incompetence. Someone on Macron’s advance team, along with the staff from the French embassy and French delegation at the UN, should have been idiot proofing all the details. So should the designated liaison people in the U.S. State Department. So should the events coordinators at the NYPD, which handles this kind of thing all the time.
These people are supposed to work seamlessly so that foreign heads of state aren’t derailed in the streets of NYC, or anywhere else. Somebody dropped the ball. But reporters and commentators are going to turn it into a clickbait story.
This is NYC in 2025. Maybe the tampon dispenser in the men’s restroom ran out and the NYPD escort officers were delayed, fouling up the well-tuned plans. I can think of 1001 other possibilities, some more and some less likely than that.
The simplest explanation would be that Macron got into a conversation that ran too long, and he brushed off the escort officers who were trying to hustle him out the door. If that was the case, they should have stayed at the UN a little longer, until Trump’s motorcade had cleared. Someone had to adjust on the fly and made the wrong call.
If Macron doesn’t like it, tell him to pay and get the UN moved to Paris.

Manhattan has some challenging geology. This makes tunneling difficult and expensive. There is a reason that nearly every subway is of the cut and cover type. The tunnels under the river were all dug with tunnel shields though the soft river sediments vs tunneling deep through the very hard metamorphic rocks. Only the more modern and very expensive tunnels have been TBM bores. The new aquaduct bore has been under construction since 1970 and won’t be fully done until 2032. It’s hard pun intended to bore through meta rocks.
I would be very surprised if the type of TBM the Boring company uses can make the kind of rapid penetration to be economical for a hyper loop type system. Vegas their largest project sit in a valley filled with soft alluvial sediments not solid schists and gneiss rocks.
Macron is an idiot and on his way out of office anyway so it’s fine that Trump snubbed him. Hopefully somebody like Marie LePen takes his place.

This sounds more like a screwup by the French consulate/UN embassy. They had Trumps itinerary, or should have had, and should have planned Macrons itinerary accordingly.
And his wife is having prostate problems too!
