A new $100,000 fee for H-1B visas in the United States that goes into effect on Sunday will be levied per petition and will not be applied to existing visa holders re-entering the country, the White House said on Saturday. "This is NOT an annual fee. It’s a one-time fee that applies only to the petition," White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said in a post on X on Saturday.

FEE ONLY FOR NEW H-1B VISAS

Leavitt said that current H-1B visa holders who are currently outside of the country will not be charged $100,000 to re-enter the United States. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on Friday said the fee, opens new tab would be paid annually but added that details were "still being considered." The White House clarification on Saturday represented a walkback from Lutnick's statement.

Some companies including Microsoft (MSFT.O), opens new tab, JPMorgan (JPM.N), opens new tab, and Amazon (AMZN.O), opens new tab had responded to the Friday announcement by advising employees holding H-1B visas to remain in the United States, according to internal emails reviewed by Reuters. A Goldman Sachs (GS.N), opens new tab internal memo seen by Reuters on Saturday urged employees with such visas to exercise caution on international travel.

I’m MAGA. I get so tired of the White House presenting changes only to roll back on the scale and leaving the base with an empty feeling.

YMMV

Well, it should be. Because a one-time fee means nothing. Hire a cheap foreigner over an American citizen, and that $100,000 fee will be recouped in just a few years.

So why even bother? Unless you’re only interested in pretending to make a dent here.

I didn’t vote for this. Another illegal invasion facilitated by the government.

I can understand not wanting to cause a huge disruption to businesses that rely on Pajeet workers but a 100k one time fee isn’t going to be enough to get rid of the invaders.
I guess it’s an okay start. It really should be an annual fee.

Somehow this little bone tossed to us makes it worse. Stabbing Americans in the back costs so little. We are invisible.

You really f-d up Trump. The nightmare continues…..

Trump has to make sure that business is good in America. Bringing jobs and industry back to America is key to the success of MAGA. As always, some workers will be foreigners. All large economies use foreign labor. We must win elections. We need the rich and powerful as much as we need everyday Americans. We will all benefit economically and politically from the on-shoring of jobs and industry.

I actually thought this was real. We can all be fooled. Globalism is evil and it touches all of our leaders . Our billionaire tech bros are determined to leave the American working class behind. The message here is “American workers we need you to protect us but we will never hire you. You want to much and your govt is supplying us with imported servants . Now shut up and go away.”

It’s not just businesses.

Do you guys have any idea of the number of H1Bs in healthcare in this country?

Trump is well aware of this.

Trust him to do what’s best for the nation.

And give him time to find a permanent solution for the Charlie foxtrot that is our healthcare system.

The 100k fee is a good start but more needs to be done to stop the the Hindu invasion of America.
