The Conservative Party of New York State issued a sharp rebuke Monday of Governor Kathy Hochul’s endorsement of Democratic Party nominee Zohran Mamdani in the 2025 New York City mayoral race, calling the move “political expediency over the health of her state.”
“Governor Kathy Hochul chose Leftism over New Yorkers,” said Conservative Party Chairman Gerard Kassar in a September 15 release on social media. “She calculated that endorsing socialist Zohran Mamdani was better for her career than taking on the forever-seething radical left to protect the people and businesses of New York City. That’s what just happened. The Governor of New York chose political expediency over the health of her state. It will end her career.”
Hochul announced her endorsement of Mamdani in a letter published September 14 in The New York Times. In it, she pointed to affordability, public safety, and opposition to President Donald Trump as major considerations behind her reasoning. While Hochul acknowledged policy disagreements she had with Mamdani, she said she was still confident in his “courage, urgency and optimism” to lead New York City.
“Zohran and I don’t see eye to eye on everything, and I don’t expect us to,” Hochul wrote. “I will always reserve the right to disagree honestly and to argue passionately. But I also believe that New York State and New York City are at their best when we stand together against those who attempt to tear us apart.”
The Conservative Party, which is fielding Irene Estrada for mayor through a Wilson-Pakula authorization, is not alone in criticizing the decision. Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa told ABC7 on Monday that he was unsurprised by Hochul’s endorsement, adding that he does not trust politicians of either the Republican or Democratic parties, who he said are subject to “flip flop.”
As of Monday afternoon, Independent Political Report was not aware of any public responses to the endorsement from independent mayoral candidates Eric Adams, Andrew Cuomo, or Joseph Hernandez.
Why couldn't the CP nominate Sliwa?
The Conservative Party in NYS is a running joke. As is the Republican Party in NYS. Both are in it for personal gains, patronage jobs, not building organizations to elect great candidates.
Hey... the conservative party said something. Now what?
When a lerson has no skills, but still wants to earn a huge paycheck for basically doing nothing but showing up, they run for office
Now they plan their next soiree to celebrate themselves as relevant.
If Hochul is getting behind Mamdani, I don’t want to hear one single bleating from any New Yorker on how bad the state will crumble.
I think Hochul knows she will lose her next election...and royally.
NYS is no different than MA or CA or IL, all have marxist or commie mayors in their large deep Blue cities. The separation of Blue and Red states is accelerating and the results will be enlightening to Dems and people who vote Dem over the coming years. Red states really need to aggressively focus on K-12 school reforms. That will provide concrete evidence that Blue states are in the sewer.
I believe that all the parties in New York state have been infiltrated with democrats.
NYC voters couldn’t care less about what any conservative party thinks.
Hochul is a political animal just trying to keep power. Hochul is a big part of the problem, she’s on video saying they are at war with conservatives.
Because Sliwa is a clown.
When Mamdani gets elected, will Hochul then allow her daughter to ride the subway without armed guards?
It’s New York city like all democrats ran cities nothing is normal comrade.
And their point is? Come on.
It’s a democrat owned and ran city no options until the votes make the chang of things.
DEAD CITY
