Russia and Belarus start military exercise near NATO border after drone incursion: Poland on High Alert

Russia and Belarus began a major joint military exercise on NATO's doorstep on Friday at a time of heightened tension with the Western alliance, two days after Poland shot down Russian drones that crossed into its airspace.

The "Zapad-2025" exercise, a show of force by Russia and its close ally Belarus, is taking place at training grounds in both countries, including close to the Polish border.

It was scheduled well before the drone incident, which marked the first known occasion that a NATO member had fired against incoming Russian targets in the course of the 3-1/2-year war.

WHAT WILL THE EXERCISE INVOLVE?

Russia's defence ministry said that in the first phase of the exercise, troops would simulate repelling an attack against Russia and Belarus, whose alliance is known as the Union State.

The second stage will focus on "restoring the territorial integrity of the Union State and crushing the enemy, including with the participation of a coalition group of forces from friendly states", the ministry said.

Belarus borders three NATO members - Poland, Lithuania and Latvia - to its west, and Ukraine to its south.

The Kremlin said on Friday that European concerns about the exercises were an emotional response based on hostility towards Russia. It has declined to comment on this week's drone incident, which was seen in the West as a wake-up call for NATO and a test of its responses.

Western countries called the drone episode a deliberate provocation by Russia, which Moscow denied. Russia's Defence Ministry said its drones had carried out an attack in western Ukraine at the time, but it had not planned to hit any targets in Poland.

After President Trump's inexplicable evasive response to the confirmed intentional intrusion of Polish airspace by Russian drones, this administration should fall on its knees and beseech Ukraine to continue to share its lead in drone warfare with us.

The fate of Taiwan probably depends on it.

I honestly think Poland can defeat Russia. They are a faux military force. That was proven when they couldn’t even overrun Ukraine.

Having said that, they are very good at controlling a nation after they seize it...where as we are terrible at that.

You can believe me when I say we won’t cross the borders into Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia or Poland, added Putin, nudge nudge wink wink.

But those places sure need de-Nazifying, he said, without any apparent sense of irony.

This is ludicrous.
If Russia can’t make progress in Ukraine, why would they open a second front??

Maybe as a distraction? To draw attention away from their humiliating performance in Ukraine?

Yes, Poland is very much a member of NATO which makes Trump's vapid response to Russia's deliberate intrusion all the more feckless. Equally feckless was Poland's, that is NATO's, immediate countermeasure. NATO interposed multimillion dollar assets that failed to stop very cheap drones.

It is not an accident that the intrusion was made by drones that have reshaped the battlescape in Poland and, therefore, the potential battlefields in the rest of the world, including, no doubt, Taiwan. Hence, the admonition that we up our capabilities concerning drones. Ukraine leads the world in deadly competition with Russia in innovative drone warfare.

How many times have you heard that American support for Israel is justified by Israel's alleged contribution to American military technology? Perhaps the same test might be applied to Ukraine. In fact, Ukraine is already sharing its winning experience with us.

Putin will not order the invasion of Poland. These are simply military exercises. Just like what happened along Ukraine’s border in February of 2022 and the current buildup along the Russian border with Finland. Military exercises nothing more.

And Putin fears Trump’s wrath if he invades a NATO country. For instance,Trump may extend the deadline for a cease fire in Ukraine for another year and may offer to give Putin Alaska if he doesn’t invade Poland. You know, The “Art of the Deal” LOL!

BTW, The Russians are laughing at Trump.

Alexei Zhuravlev, first deputy chairman of the Duma’s defence committee: “Trump remains in his normal state. He is either waiting to have a conversation with Putin, talking to Putin, or is explaining how well he spoke to Putin.”

Putin lacks the ability to invade Ukraine.

Putin is acting from panic desperation

Its called posturing. Russia is not going to try to invade NATO countries and get into a dust up with the US. They have already seen what 50 US spec ops guys with a little air support did to 500 Russian mercenaries. It was a massacre.

Russia is stronger than some say and weaker than others say. I’ve seen a lot of propaganda from Ukraine and Russia in the last two years.

I don’t think Russia will go against NATO unless provoked and with the assurance of Chinese backup and NK ground troops.

It’s sad that “Deep State” forces seek confrontation with Russia in Poland-Baltic Sea area.

Huh?! Poland is not a Declared nuclear power - nor has any reputable source ever suggested that she might be an Undeclared nuclear power.

Yeah, NK as a military superpower is a real game-changer! And NK is really so well poised, geographically, to come to Russia's assistance on Russia's western border!

If that is true then Trump really missed a golden opportunity to end the war in Ukraine. Maybe not in 24 hours but by now if he had just not cut off military aid to Ukraine in exchange for Zelenski to give inside info of Biden and other deep state crooks skimming and getting kickbacks from our 125 billion dollars worth of aid to Ukraine.

Not only did Trump cut off military aid to Ukraine his hollow threats for severe economic sanctions to Russia only emboldened Putin And now there are major joint military maneuvers between Russia and Belarus on the border of Poland.

Trump should get a Nobel Chamberlain Award for appeasement.
