The U.S. Naval Academy is on lockdown after a midshipman who had been kicked out of the school returned to campus armed with a weapon, multiple sources inside the U.S. Naval Academy tell Fox News.
Gunshots were heard inside Bancroft Hall, which houses the midshipmen. One victim was transported via medevac and multiple other victims were being assessed.
One official on campus said, "The shooter is knocking on doors pretending to be a military policeman."
"Naval Support Activity Annapolis, in coordination with local law enforcement, is currently responding to reports of threats made to the Naval Academy," NSAA PAO, LT Naweed Lemar, told Fox News.
The base is on lockdown out of an abundance of caution. This is a developing situation and we will provide updates as they become available."
A Defense Department official also confirmed they are aware of the lockdown at the campus, but added there was no additional information at this time.
A former student told Fox News Digital how "horrible" it must feel for the midshipman locked inside, since the building always felt like "home" and houses around 4000 or more individuals.
"It's definitely obviously horrible because the school is very close. The common phrase that you'll hear midshipmen describe Bancroft Hall is that you live and work there," they said.
"So it's, it's both your home and your workplace," they added before describing how secure the hall is.

Anyone still think we are not at war with the progs?
ANYONE?
.
Do we know anything about the shooter? All I’ve heard is that he was a disgruntled student who had been dismissed.
I thought access to the Naval Academy was somewhat difficult.
I believe the Cadets treat it as a college of military and tactics, however still a college as far as open campus.
24 years to the day.
Big chance of copy cats now.
No credible threat at US Naval Academy, governor's office says; Here's what happened (WBAL TV11)
Students were placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution. A midshipman who was sheltered in place thought a member of law enforcement was a threat and hit him with a training weapon. Law enforcement then shot the midshipman, who is at a hospital and expected to recover.""A midshipman who was thrown out of the academy made anonymous threats through social media using an IP address in an attempt to make it seem like he was at the academy, according to NBC News.
What a Charlie Foxtrot.
That changes the crime to Assault, Battery, and Attempted Murder by Swatting, and the number of counts is the number of persons at the Academy.
Said Homo is gonna enjoy his sentence, and he is liable civilly as well.
