The State Department on Thursday said it was monitoring social media accounts of foreign nationals "praising, rationalizing, or making light" of conservative activist Charlie Kirk's fatal shooting.
Kirk, 31, was killed Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University. His killer remains at large.
"In light of yesterday's horrific assassination of a leading political figure, I want to underscore that foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country," Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau said in a post on X.
"I have been disgusted to see some on social media praising, rationalizing, or making light of the event, and have directed our consular officials to undertake appropriate action. Please feel free to bring such comments by foreigners to my attention so that the @StateDept can protect the American people."
Users under Landau's post shared screenshots of people they thought fit into his description.
"Hey @Microsoft is this your employee celebrating the murder of Charlie Kirk? Does this align with your company values?" wrote one user.
Added another, "A Somalian American X user celebrating the assassination of Charlie Kirk."

Ironically, recently I’ve heard Charlie state that even legal immigration should be suspended now, and I agree with him.
Those coming in legally aren’t like the ones coming early in the 1900s. Before, they were determined to assimilate. Now, they’re coming in and bringing in the cultures, flags, languages from their sh!thole countries, expecting us to bow down and respect that.
Things have changed; end ALL immigration.
OK, ... I’m a generous guy.
I just wish we’d find an alternate synonym for ‘horrific’. It’s become as tiresome in the news and the mouths of politicians as ‘outrage’ used to be.
They are guests of this country, and rude guests get shown the door, just like any rude guest at your house would be kicked out...

I disagree. They have no right to be in a country, it’s a privilege. And if they wanna act reprehensible and say the most disgusting things, I see no reason why we should let them in.
Look at it like it was your own house. If you have family members that live with you that are repulsive. Well, that’s kind of like first amendment rights, and you just have to deal with it. If you got neighbors and acquaintance that are repulsive, you don’t have to let them in your house , nor should you. This is the same thing.

They are guests not citizens. We don’t need to allow foreigners to praise violence and remain in USA.
Freedom of speech is not absolute even for citizens. Exceptions for citizens include: incitement to violence, true threats, defamation (libel and slander), fighting words, obscenity and child pornography, non-expressive conduct, intellectual property violations like copyright infringement, and speech integral to criminal activity like fraud. Speaking against America or celebrating violence against American, encourages more violence & is grounds for visa revocation
