In a matter of days, the US House speaker, Mike Johnson, claimed that Donald Trump was an FBI informant who was working to try to take down the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein – then backed away from the confusing statement.
Johnson made the baffling claim on Thursday speaking to reporters at the US Capitol. “He was an FBI informant to try and take this stuff down,” Johnson said of Trump.
The remark was so perplexing that it reportedly confused even Trump administration officials.
By Sunday, Johnson was walking back his explosive comment. “The speaker is reiterating what the victims’ attorney said, which is that Donald Trump – who kicked Epstein out of Mar-a-Lago – was the only one more than a decade ago willing to help prosecutors expose Epstein for being a disgusting child predator,” his office said in a statement.
Brad Edwards, an attorney who represents several Epstein victims, told reporters Wednesday that Trump had helped him look into claims against Epstein more than a decade ago – but had since done an about-face, according to the Washington Post.

It’s the Guardian who have never met a slander about Donald Trump that they didn’t amplify. They are predictable and boring.
Simple: Johnson slipped up by using a legal term: Trump was an informant, and informed to the FBI, but he was never legally an “FBI informant.”
Trump’s fumblings have allowed him to be recast as a villain when he should be known as a hero.
What l make of it is Massie is an a-hole. F him and his little rat butt buddy.
Massie said “you mean he was an informant for a Democratic hoax”. That’s when Mike Johnson started walking back on that claim.
Unfortunately he doesn’t seem to be able to be precise in his statements.
Did Johnson slander the POTUS with his statement? Calling someone an FBI informant isn’t much better than calling them a pedophile IMHO.

Trump violated Reagan’s 11th commandment: “Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican”. Trump went after Massie in a big way trying to push him out of office. So don’t be surprised when Massie attacks him back.

I agree the FBI is full of corruption and needs a good purging - but I would probably not start with the low level informants.

I don’t have all the answers but FBI informants come off like this guy Fabbio Minoggio from the 2016 Oregon Standoff protest over the federal imprisonment of those Oregon ranchers for lighting a backfire.
He wanted to get people protesting at the wildlife refuge out on a shooting range to make them look like radical militia types.
Heck this guy used an alias “John Killman” for his FBI work.
