The History Channel miniseries about the changes in New York organized crime showed the days just before Mayor Giuliani was sworn in.
One formerly high class retail area had about three or four blocks continuously boarded up or used by derelicts as the camera slowly panned past them as the narrator said nearly one million people deserted New York due to crime and they took their spending money with them, causing New York to go into near bankruptcy. Also made opportunities for the crime lords to buy up enterprises to replace the owners running away.
The Mamdani Era is going to look like that.

All the commercial districts I saw in Los Angeles looked sad, even the ‘Miracle Mile’. The Bernie Sanders restaurant near the Petersen Auto Museum was permanently closed.
Shouldn’t a bunch of cannabis outlets, nail salons and dollar stores and coffee places fill in the empty buildings?
Or maybe pole dance strip clubs. Unless that last one is outdated now. I don’t spend any time in Dem cities.

I get the impression that New York City is kind of thriving. There are vacant storefronts, but not at LA disaster levels.
