El Salvador's president, Nayib Bukele, celebrated this Saturday that 1,000 days would be celebrated without any homicide in the country, as a result of his campaign to prosecute the crime.
1,000 days without homicides. I was advised to make a national network and give a speech to commemorate this historic milestone. But I think that instead of speeches, it is best that today we reflect on what our country has lived and on all the forces that tried to prevent us from getting here," Bukele said on his account on the X social network.
The data was published on Friday by the Press Secretariat of the Salvadoran Government through X, but shortly after the message was deleted, according to the press of the Central American country.
The Minister of Security and Justice, Gustavo Villatoro, later stressed that this is an achievement that no other government could even imagine and that shows the world that, in our country, the results speak for themselves, thanks to strategies such as the Territorial Control Plan, the War against Gangs and the Emergency Regime.
However, the Organization of Salvadoran Women for Peace (Ormusa) maintains that 14 femicides have been documented so far this year in El Salvador.

Since Bukele is saying homicides, that leaves legit wiggle room for manslaughter and similar less severe cases; on the flip side it could raise concerns about homicides being downgraded to make the crime rate look better (ironically, like Democrat cities in the US). So is there anything to this "femicide" claim or not?
The murderers live here in the US now.
“El Salvador’s president, Nayib Bukele, celebrated this Saturday that 1,000 days would be celebrated without any homicide in the country”. I sure would like to meet and speak with person.
I say this can’t be true. No domestic killings, no fatal child abuse, no rejected lovers, no ordinary muggers in robberies gone wrong...
I have read, and have no idea whether true or not, that Bukele made a deal with the gangs where they disappear the bodies instead of leaving them on the street to terrorize. That really wouldn’t work unless they murdered many many fewer people and kept it intra-gang. Might even be worth it.
But no murders in three years? Even Maine has 30 murders a year with a quarter the population.
Can DC even go 1000 hours?
For many years El Paso was the safest big city in the country. One year a metro population of about 900k people had only 4 murders and they were all domestic. I agree that no murders in a country of 6.5 million people is unbelievable. I wish they would give the real number as I suspect it’s impressive even if not perfect.
I visited the "gang village" in Dec. 2023 with a missions team. No police, infantry or other security. Had relaxed visit with the neighborhood president (or whatever they call themselves), while kids played with our team. Never felt the last bit unsafe or saw signs of anything that would indicate trouble. Visited a local jail with short-time lockups and the inmates were not hardened criminals/gangsters, just ordinary souls who were in trouble for one thing or another.
Everyone I talk to down there loves that improvement; there is vague general concern that Bukele may turn authoritarian, but he has a huge amount of goodwill built up. I just hope he understands this can't be just about him - he has to mention another generation and be willing to hand power over to those he trains, rather than clinging selfishly to power.
Those gang bangers packed together like sardines. I’d take away their underwear and put viagra in their diet.
Good points. That said is there any chance democrats telling us crime is down in their large hellhole cities is true?
I have not read the article but it may imply to the types of murders Salador had suffered in the past such as gang murders, extortion and terrorism.
May not include domestic violence resulting in murder.
Just my guess
There are still about 15,000 murderers living in El Salvador.
They’re being well cared for in Bukele’s CECOT facility.
