“Thanks to President Trump fully unleashing American energy dominance, gas prices this summer are at five-year lows and families are saving significant money at the pump. President Trump ended Joe Biden’s Green New Scam policies and is making America affordable again.”— White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, reported exclusively in Fox News.
“President Trump campaigned on lowering costs and this Labor Day Weekend, the American people will see the results firsthand at the gas pump — with the lowest gas prices in years. His approach is simple and commonsense: more American energy means lower costs, more jobs, and more prosperity.” — Secretary of Energy Chris Wright
Americans traveling for Labor Day weekend will see the lowest gas prices in at least five years and dipping airfare as President Donald J. Trump delivers on his promises of lower prices, higher wages, and stable inflation.
It will be “the lowest price at the pump on Labor Day since 2020,” according to GasBuddy — and “motorists can expect more relief to arrive in the weeks ahead.” Meanwhile, hotel rates are down about 11 percent, domestic airfares are down six percent over last year, and car rental costs are down three percent.
Lower gas prices are part of a trend under the Trump Administration, which has taken relentless action to revive America’s energy capabilities and undo the Biden-era stranglehold on American energy production.
The price decline is being reported in local news across the country:

Still $3.07 at my local station. I’d love to see under $3 per gallon gas.

Labor Day gas prices in south central Pennsylvania:
2025 - $3.25
2024 - $3.49
2023 - $3.79
2022 - $3.85
2021 - $3.35
2019 - $2.65
2017 - $2.85 (after $0.50 spike following Hurricane Harvey
Bottom line—going the right way but could be doing a lot better.

The only reason gas prices are down is OPEC+ decided to produce more and go for market share rather than higher prices-lower sales volume. They couldn’t let us make all the fat profits. No way to know how long they will stay the course.

Adjusted for inflation, the price of gas is similar to 1968:
1968: $.34 a gallon. That’s $3.17 a gallon adjusted for inflation.

I just remember paying $2.26 a gallon at the end of President Trump’s first term. I know we’ve had inflation since then, but I would like to see a little under $3 per gallon.

Looks like around $3/gal in the Vegas area. Problem where we are is no pipelines. Tankers or rail. And refinery closures in CA where most of our petro comes from.

Could happen but the bottom price means nowhere to go but up. It’s the average price over long periods of time that matters. OPEC+ is top dog in the price/supply equation for now.
