WASHINGTON (7News) — A man was arrested Monday evening after being seen on camera burning an American flag in Lafayette Park, near the White House. The incident happened only hours after President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at cracking down on the act of flag burning.
The U.S. Secret Service said officers detained the man around 6:15 p.m. after he set the flag on fire. Agents quickly extinguished the flames before turning the man over to the U.S. Park Police, which has jurisdiction in the area.
U.S. Park Police identified the charge as a violation of 36 CFR 2.13(a)(1), which prohibits unauthorized fires on federal property.

Fifteen years in Iowa jail for burning pride flag
What will John Roberts say?
Well the link magically disappeared. Mods pull.
FAFO...
Man arrested for burning American flag near White House hours after Trump signs order
Probably not the best place to FAFO right now.
Obviously not.
He’ll probably recommend a mere slap for the perpetrator who burned the American flag.
Some food for thought, gang. And for once I’ll post the whole thing...

I’d like to share how I consume the news.
Every time I hear or read something that just doesn’t “feel right,” I ignore the news report and instead look for the primary documents upon which the story is based.
9 times out 10 the news story is wrong in some important way.
Most “primary sources” are easy to find in this day and age: (i) actual, full statutes; (ii) actual, full court cases; (iii) actual, full executive orders; (iv) full, complete, unedited transcripts of speeches; (v) full professional journal articles that are quoted; and (vi) unedited, complete video in context.
What happened today with Trump’s flag burning EO is a classic case of people not taking that extra step of verification before they light their hair on fire.
(The problem though, I guess, is building that sixth sense of knowing something does not “feel right.” I’m not sure how to teach people that skill, but my best advice is that if it feels outrageous, it probably is.)

Portland Oregon may have paid him to fly there and burn the flag in front of any Federal buildings, but DC is definitely a bad choice.
Flag burning should be legal.
Assaulting flag burners should be legal also.
Solves the whole problem.

All according to Trump’s latest trap plan
The hassle the flag burning guy is going to go through is well worth it.
Trump flag-burning EO should pass the Supreme Court’s muster. Trump is not defying the Supreme Court ruling that allowed flag burning. He did it smartly. He is only charging those who burn flags during protests. Basically, you can not yell fire in a crowded theater even though you have free speech. Burning a flag during a riot or confrontation with two opposing groups is inciting violence. No one is going to get arrested for burning a flag on their property with no intention of inciting violence. Besides, you can’t start fires on public or someone else’s property because you want too.
This EO won’t fly. It will eventually be overturned. What Trump should have done is require people to get a $500 permit for flag burning. After all, these flag burnings are usually on public property. Try going down to an intersection in your hometown and lighting anything on fire and see what happens. The law should target the fire, not the object being burned.
Nonsense. Only a lunatic would be incensed to the point of violence by seeing someone burn a flag.
I don’t know. Don’t ban it.
Rather, modify, control how it can be done.
To burn the flag legally, it ought be soaked in gasoline and wrapped about the head and neck taughtly so that upon ignition (hurray), it will not slip off until all fuel is fully combusted.
Enjoy your freedom.
You cannot cry fire in a crowded theater, but you can cry out with a gas soaked flag on firr about your face.
