Texas Instruments is building a $60 billion U.S. manufacturing megaproject where Apple vows to make "critical foundation semiconductors" for iPhones and other devices. CNBC went to Sherman, Texas, for an exclusive first look inside the newest fab of seven TI's building in Utah and Texas to provide U.S.-made chips to customers like Nvidia and Ford. TI shares have suffered amid tariff concerns, and it's lost analog market share for several years, but top leaders are confident about the huge spend.

TI was there at the beginning. They should have learned something after all these years.

“Although Canon has not made the price of the machines public, when the company first unveiled the technology, CEO Fujio Mitarai said the price would be ‘one digit less than ASML’s EUVs.’ The latest version of Netherlands-based AMSL’s High Numerical Aperture NA Extreme Ultraviolet (High NA EUV) machines currently retail for approximately $370 million.”

“The company has said its machine is capable of producing parts down to a 5nm node, and could eventually produce 2nm nodes once the technology has been refined even further.”

TI doesn’t have the process technology or EUV experience.
Money isn’t everything.

There’s gonna be a high expense getting all this infrastructure built and staffed. Hopefully they know this.

Does TI still design chips, or are they only a manufacturer of others’ designs?

Sorry. Is Inter only a builder, too?

“Texas Instruments has a storied past and not a good one”

Not sure what you’d consider a “good one,” but if someone has been with them from the beginning, that investor is likely very pleased.

I looked it up... TXN went public in Oct 1953 for $5 per share. After 8 splits, one share would now be 240 shares. TXN closed yesterday at 205.97. So, dropping five bucks on the stock in ‘53 would result in a position now worth $49,432.80, paying $1,305.60 in annual dividends. Even ignoring the very healthy dividends, the stock price appreciation alone has been 13.7% on an annualized basis. That’s pretty spectacular really... and significantly higher than the S&P 500’s approximate 11% return over the same period.

Imagine who to give credit for all of this.

Pres. Trump is the spark plug in recovery of our nation.

Big Turning Point.

The people responsible for off shore chip making? They were chasing cheap hard working labor cost and lower cost of doing business.

Reset the global economic system and WOW!

Look at all who are following President Trumps actions.

Sure, he is not always right, but he is absolutely amazing to watch.

LOL! I’m sure none of them are as “astute” as you are about building factories and making products....better to keep one’s mouth shut....

They were once the big dog in the business. I have driven by the plant in Sherman and the one along the freeway in Dallas for decades. They reached a point of growth and stopped. I guess what they had went overseas for cheaper labor but then you heard little about them.
