President Donald Trump is expected to announce a new and major investment in American manufacturing from the White House Monday afternoon, marking yet another economic victory less than two months into his second term.
"Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. intends to invest $100 billion in chip-manufacturing plants in the U.S. over the next four years under a plan expected to be announced later Monday by President Trump, according to people familiar with the matter," the Wall Street Journal reports. "The investment would be used to build out cutting-edge chip-making facilities. Such an expansion would advance a long-pursued U.S. goal to regrow the domestic semiconductor industry after manufacturing fled largely to Asian countries in recent decades."
The news has been confirmed by the White House and Trump will host an event at 1:30 pm et to detail the investment and take questions from the media.

Sounds like a domestic manufacturing renaissance to me!— Daniel Baldwin (@baldwin_daniel_) March 3, 2025
Sadly we still have the labor unions so whatever we will produce will cost FAR MORE than other countries.
I have to add that, luckily, I work for a non union shop where they treat the employees well...
Do these plants have to be union?
I certainly hope not.
Only sometimes. For new manufacturing facilities, with new jobs, Unions don't have the chance to spread wasteful work rules. The facility just isn't set up to handle that.
The entire country should have no problem with workers earning what their productivity allows. This is good for the workers, good for the employer, and good for the country.
“ Do these plants have to be union?”
Build them in right to work states, where there are no unions.
“Anyone who works in the private sector who isn’t protected by the collective bargaining power of a labor union will never make more than the minimum it would costs their employer to replace them.”
Exactly how a FREE MARKET works. I’m white collar and I can literally be let go tomorrow. So if a high school kid can put tires on cars and torque their lug nuts properly, then that job should be done by the kid, making perhaps, $20/hour, rather than a UAW guy making $60+, because the Unions DEMANDS it (and then financing the Democrats with some of that money).
At least if we want our products to be competitive - we will strive for the CHEAPEST labor able to do the work. If not, I guess we can let the unions drive us (and themselves, as proven out over the past 35 years), into the gutter, when it comes to manufacturing.

They’ll wind up that way...they always do. And we’ll make as many chips as the $12B bought us in EV charging stations, 7.

Just get rid of the damn unions and be done with that. All the decent quality cars are made by NON-UNION American workers (Toyota, Honda, etc.) - don’t hear no complaints from them. Seems to me that if someone does a decent job, they get job security from that - and usually far more security than a union can provide, given their overpriced, crappy, products.

With oceanic shipping costs so low, it’s like the foreign companies are next door to us.
There’s a logic behind tariffs but why would a company invest a lot of money in a domestic plant when the next administration might remove the tariffs, making their investment a failure.
“””If it weren’t for federal labor laws (and to a lesser extent the local “prevailing wage”) business owners would pay their employees crumbs”””
I’d say you have never had employees and don’t know anything about the prevailing wage deal.
Chips are NOT made by union labor. Go away you GLOBULLIST troll.
WHEN YOU START OUR OWN BUSINESS & HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL FOR 5 YEARS OR MORE-—I MIGHT LISTEN TO YOU.
I HAVE SEEN TOO MANY USELESS PERSONS IN UNION JOBS THAT NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN HIRED FOR ANYTHING.
THERE ARE UNIONS-—BUT NOT MANDATORY
LOL. No, typically in the USA silicon wafers chips are non union made.
Hey Stalin, who says yoy should determine how much someone should make?
