California’s lightning-fast push for partisan redistricting reflects Trump’s new America

In an evening social media post about a supremely partisan battle that could reshape American political power for generations, President Trump sounded ebullient.

“Big WIN for the Great State of Texas!!! Everything Passed, on our way to FIVE more Congressional seats and saving your Rights, your Freedoms, and your Country, itself,” Trump wrote, of the nation’s most populous red state pushing a mid-decade redistricting plan designed to win more Republican seats in Congress and protect Trump’s power through the 2026 midterms.

“Texas never lets us down. Florida, Indiana, and others are looking to do the same thing,” Trump wrote — nodding to a potential proliferation of such efforts across the country.

The next day, Gov. Gavin Newsom — projecting a fresh swagger as Trump’s chief antagonist on the issue — stood with fellow lawmakers from the nation’s most populous blue state to announce their own legislative success in putting to voters a redrawn congressional map for California that strongly favors Democrats.

“We got here because the president of the United States is one of the most unpopular presidents in U.S. history,” Newsom said, couching the California effort as defensive rather than offensive. “We got here because he recognizes that he will lose the election, [and that] Congress will go back into the hands of the Democratic Party next November.”

In the last week, with lightning speed, the nation’s foremost political leaders have jettisoned any pretense of political fairness — any notion of voters being equal or elected representatives reflecting their constituencies — in favor of an...

America’s Free Constitutional Republic of representation and limited gov’t stands opposed to Obama’s/the Dem’s radical democracy of unlimited gov’t and tyranny of populous locations like LA and SF in CA.

Isn't the Texas plan eliminating gerrymanders that had been created to give the Democrat Party seats it didn't really deserve?

Ungerrymandering is the new gerrymandering.

OK, let’s see their map. Not sure how many more seats they can get after their last attempt at this in California

I don't see how California's plan will change much of anything. It's already beyond reach. Orange
County was Nixon's county, and I don't think Orange County has elected an R, in 20 years.

From what I’ve learned (on the internet, so take that with a grain of salt), all blue states, except CA and NY have gerrymandered to their maximum legal abililty. Red states still have room for this political ploy.

For well over a century, Democrats gerrymandered Texas. Republicans were essentially locked out of power. Here is one of the many examples of how Texas was gerrymandered:

The West Coast and New England States “went off the deep end” by the 1990’s.

They’ve only gotten worse since then.

If gerrymandering was to be done honestly and dependent on population in a state, the California republicans would have almost the same number of seats in congress as California democrats.

As it stands, republicans in California can accuse California of taxation without representation, which is similar to the taxation without representation which brought about the American revolution.

With democrats becoming more and more irrelevant in American politics, they have to reach way down into the barrel of dirty politics in order to try to remain relevant.

If democrats want to bring up the matter of conservative gerrymandering being racist, it would be an accusation without merit, because, if gerrymandering was to be based on race, blacks would need to have ONLY 13-14 % of seats in congress. But, dividing representation based on race, is the most racist thing in politics anyone can conceive.

If everything in society were to be split along racial lines, blacks would have to go back to seating at the back of he bus again, because, they would be getting left behind again, by the democrats, who were the ones that made them seat at the back of the bus in the first place.

Democrats only care about racial gerrymandering because it keeps it gets them the seats they would otherwise not have logically, since the people are moving away from progressive policies/ideology.

West coast California is more highly populated and constipated with leftists. Eastern California is less populated and more Republican. By drawing borders that make districts into more horizontal slices, pieces of the less populated western districts become part of the new Demonicrat-dominated west coast districts.

California isn't moving towards redistricting: California's government is. There's no mass support for this: it's simply another sign that California is a one-party dictatorship.

The end result of all of this will be elections that neither side recognizes as valid, which will ultimately result in the use of force to decide the outcome and the suppression of one side or the other.

In fact, since the Dems have already turned CA, IL, NY, MD, NM and other states into vicious one-party dictatorships, Trump should move to have those governments replaced, the Dems and their registered voters lustrated because the Constitution imposes the obligation on the Federal government to ensure a small-r "republican" form of government.

As someone once noted, the Dem party is the world's largest criminal conspiracy masquerading as a political party. Their continued political influence is a deadly threat to the republic.

I think they may have a fight in their hands in the coming election. I was pleasantly surprised to see an anti change flyer arrive in my mail on Friday

Like many here I am deeply marinating in politics all the time. Before the brouhaha with Secretary Noem, if you would have mentioned his name, I would correctly identified him as one of our Senators. But if you had asked me what the name of our two Senators are, I could only have identified tidied Schiff.
Likewise, except for the governor I can’t remember the names of any of the state constitutional officers, the Speaker of the Assembly, or the President Pro Tempore of the Senate

My point is this: when you have entrenched one party rule, the drones just vote for the “D” the occupants of the offices are just the next colorless functionary the party has chosen. See Harris, Kamala

I’m no fan of how Governor Schwarzenegger ran the state. But the Redistricting Commission was one of his babies, and he’s going to be leading the “no” campaign. Say what you will about him, but he actually has name recognition and a personality. I think they’re going to have to throw the ballot harvesting machine and ballot “curing” into high gear against him, and I’d give “no” a
Solid chance of winning

He wasn't a bad Governor (for California).

You could say the same about Jerry Brown. I don't remember that much about him which is good.

Gray Davis was bad.

Newsom’s redistricting scheme runs afoul of the CA state constitution as does the timing of his ‘special’ election.

May get it done in time for 2028.

But not 2026.

The US government is not based on the very European idea of “proportional representation.”

Our election system has always been “winner take all” in whatever election underway. That’s what small “r” republicanism is all about.
