U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is looking into the federal government taking equity stakes in computer chip manufacturers that receive CHIPS Act funding to build factories in the country, two sources said. Expanding on a plan to receive an equity stake in Intel, a White House official and a person familiar with the situation said Lutnick is exploring how the U.S. can receive equity stakes in exchange for CHIPS Act funding for companies such as Micron Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing and Samsung. Much of the funding has not yet been dispersed.

Socialism.
If China takes over Taiwan we’re up the creek without a paddle. That makes this different. For the first time in o our history we have critical goods coming from a potential enemy.
Why is that a problem? What if all the tanks in the world were produced by Germany - and it’s 1939.
Trump needs to take a major part of Intel and start the process of building larger chips.
Same with companies that build large transformers.
If the purpose is limited to the return of funds doled out via the CHIPS act then this might be okay. The CHIPS act itself was probably socialism anyway, so this might cancel it out..
I guess I got my answer.
IIRC Intel was going to build a plant in Columbus, OH and backed out when Biden Admin attached DEI requirements to the money. Not sure if it’s on again or not.

Why is the government paying people to make chimps?
Don't chimps make enough baby chimps on their own?
In general I oppose government industry (which is called fascidm in other countries) because
1. Government doesn’t have the best track record running enterprises
And
2. We need a MUCH smaller and far LESS powerful fed govt, one more aligned with its constitutional mandate
Having said all that, IF this is the only way to keep microchips alive in USA (????) then so be it. However I STILL don’t see why the shares aren’t sold to American investors
Keep a chip industry here even government run (temporarily maybe?) could be thought in the same manner as when the government ran arsenals.
I don’t support this, at all.
LOL - I remember when Saturday Night Live was funny too...
Agreed. I don’t like it. History shows that government programs always get bigger and bigger and morphed into something unrecognizable from its initial intent.
Temporarily works for me... We’re in this mess because democrats (for decades) made bad choices - hope Hunter and the Big Guy enjoyed the money, diamonds and ‘whores’ - along with the rest of the corrupt ones... Cheap labor there, cheap labor here it’s democrat mantra.
Remember this must be an advanced bleeding edge state of art chip science\technology. That’s too important to not sponsor in some way even if it means enriching some cronies.
You mean both parties. Is was the gop with the majority votes on nafta, globalism in general, Nixon opening China, and support for mfn for communist china, etc etc. They all got rich selling out America.
True - your facts are correct. But our mistakes were at the beginning before we saw all the flaws. Well, for the most part.
Enjoyed your home page - some amazing quotes there....
U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick
Epstein’s next door neighbor for 15 years during his active time. His house shared a wall with Epstein. Probably justa coincidence.... again.
By the way, Mussolini would feel very comfortable with this plan.
This is a straight up military necessity. We have a huge shortage of military grade chips still ongoing.
It was also the Republicans running tech production out of the South and the country. Biblethumpers were specifically responsible for killing off the first Apple plant in Texas.
If this means the taxpayers will get reimbursed for our investment in these companies, perhaps even profit-sharing, I’m fine with it. Every grant we ever gave out for corporate R&D should have been paid back at the very least.
