Witkoff noted that these concessions were partly achieved because the U.S. side tested Russia’s willingness to adopt a more flexible stance.
Trump and his team focused on securing a long-term peace agreement rather than a temporary ceasefire during the Anchorage meeting, he added.
“We stayed there for quite some time because we actually made progress on how we might get to a peace deal,” Witkoff said.
According to him, Trump began to sense that many preconditions for a comprehensive deal were already in place, prompting efforts to negotiate a full peace agreement.

The combination of that weird summit in Alaska with Vladimir Putin and the only slightly less bizarre gathering of NATO leaders in Washington, was the latest reminder that U.S. President Donald Trump is a terrible negotiator, a true master of the “art of the giveaway.” He doesn’t prepare, doesn’t have subordinates lay the groundwork beforehand, and arrives at each meeting not knowing what he wants or where his red lines are. He has no strategy and isn’t interested in the details, so he just wings it.
As we learned during his first term, when he wasted time on those irrelevant reality-show meetings with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, all Trump really craves is attention, coupled with dramatic visuals that suggest he is in charge. The substance of any deal he might make is secondary if not irrelevant, which is why some of the trade agreements he’s recently announced are less favorable for the United States than he claims.
The only reason that anyone pays any attention to Trump’s erratic diplomatic blundering is that he happens to be the president of the world’s most powerful country, and cowardly members of Congress from the cult-like Republican Party continue to indulge his every whim. But when lightweights like Trump, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and amateur diplomat Steve Witkoff go up against the likes of Russian President Vladimir Putin or Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, you should expect the latter side to pick U.S. pockets cleanly.

The lamestream press doubles down on stupid
“Russia launches largest August attack on Ukraine after Trump meeting”
Sounds like it was just another ride to keep fighting, Putin is laughing.
Comprehensive Peace Agreement: Includes ceasefire and ends conflict while detailing path forward for participants.
Ceasefire: Temporary stoppage of combat that doesn’t “end” anything. See: Christmas Day in Germany in 1944.
Both countries are actively fighting, not just Russia. Russia just happens to be moving forward, Ukraine backward.
Since day 1 of this war, 100% of any reports from either a Ukraine or Russia source are nothing but spin and propaganda, and that percentage drops to about 98% spin and propaganda from Western sources.
Clever ruse, changing their name to “Urkaine.”
Virtually every report from anywhere is that when it comes to this conflict. Ukraine looks like a kid arguing with Dad about mowing the lawn.
Ukraine should negotiate with the offer and end the conflict. No negotiation, no end, more death and destruction.
Yep. The longer this continues, all it does is continue the money laundering, the MIC profits, and more White Christian young men fed into the meat grinder.
This is from the USA: “We stayed there for quite some time because we actually made progress on how we might get to a peace deal,” Witkoff said.
According to him, Trump began to sense that many preconditions for a comprehensive deal were already in place,”
The only problem in skipping a cease-fire altogether is that it permits Russia to continue its daily bombings of civilian targets in Ukraine, just like before. And that situation can continue for an over a very long time, since attaining a peace-agreement (instead of a ceasefire) is much more complicated and timeconsuming-consuming. A real peace-agreement could take at least another year, maybe two. It’s a just, but elusive goal. The killing continues unhindered in the meantime.
Having said that, aiming at a peace deal right away instead of a cease fire also has its positives. But it will take much longer time.
The ida of land-swapping is interesting and could help the process. But which territories in Russia is the Kremlin ready to exchange in compensation for Ukrainian land?
All this will take time, a lot of time, and the killings continue.
sorry for the typos, wrote on my phone....
There was no ceasefire so you shouldn’t be surprised they didn’t cease fire

Blah blah blah ain’t gonna stop Putin’s invasion
Western minds will never understand that Russia will never stop their war until they get what they want, and “peace talks” are a joke to the Kremlin.
The Bolshevics never left Russia, the Kremlin under Putin is reliving the glory of its brutal regimes of the past.
The answer is clear, Putin must die!

“No, this can’t possibly be true because just 12 hours ago we all read:

And we KNOW from the COVID crisis, that experts are always right.
In their own minds.

Step 1, Terms Written Up: Days 1-14
The Russians should be asked to type up a complete long-term peace proposal.
The Ukrainians should be asked to type up a complete long-term peace proposal.

In Putin’s dream world, every Russian demand would be incorporated in the final deal, which would be made public.
There’s no legitimate reason for secrecy, right, Vlad?

In Zelenski’s dream world, every Ukrainian demand would be incorporated in the final deal, which would be made public.
There’s no legitimate reason for secrecy, right, Volodymyr?

Hey....
Yes, Mister President!
Take these two documents and craft a reasonable peace deal document that Zelensky and Putin could sign.
Yes, Sir!
Can you give me it by Monday?
You’ll have it by 9am Monday.
