Trump gives Zelensky tough love as president delivers map of territory Ukraine must give up

President Donald Trump presented Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky with a large map showing the 20% of the country under Russian control.

During the Oval Office meeting on Monday, a large map depicting the current battlefield status of the war was presented to Zelensky.

The eastern part of the map was shaded in pink to represent the nearly 20% of the country under control by Putin's forces after the nearly four-year war.

The map may play a roll in pressuring Zelensky to consider transferring territory in order to seal a peace agreement.

Zelensky arrived to the White House for historic talks with President Donald Trump and aimed at ending the Ukraine-Russia war.

Zelensky was joined by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italy's Giorgia Meloni, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Germany’s Friedrich Merz and more.

The Ukrainian president appeared without a tie for the meeting. It was a bold statement after his appearance in military fatigues stirred controversy during his last Oval Office visit six months ago.

Wherever, whenever the final line is drawn there should be opportunity for those who’d rather end up on the other side of the line to shift sides and take their belongings (I suppose there’d be some limit, but ideally one greater than the “all you can personally carry” limit post WWII migrations.) And the receiving side should have a veto on their migration. Letting this happen is in Ukraine’s interest as if Russia says again in the future, “there are a bunch of people on their other side of the border who want to be with use so we’re going to take their land” Ukraine can point out they’d turned down the chance to join Russia before.

Agree.

I understand that it's a tough pill to swallow, in that it awards aggression and war.

But this didn't begin in 2022. The Russian invasion was that last resort after eight years of failed diplomacy and dirty tricks from the West.

The sad thing is that this was basically agreed to in the fall of 2014, long before thousands were killed. Obama and the US State Dept. have blood on their hands over this, even though they will not be held accountable for it.

We did it to Yugoslavia, bombed he cr@p out of them, then split it up to ethnic origins. It worked with them , and will work fine in Ukraine.

Zelensky is in somewhat the same position as Napoleon III at the end of the Franco Prussian War only he is still free while Napoleon was a POW captured at Sedan. France gave up Alsace and Lorraine and formed a new state the Third Republic as the Empire passed from the scene. Zelensky has a decision. He cannot retake the occupied areas. His and Ukraine’s fate, unlike France in 1871, is not totally in his hands but if he chooses to continue the war he will be at the mercy of Europe and how far they are willing to go to assist him. My guess is that without the US they will not go very far. Result... the Ukies lose more, if not all.

Makes sense to Putin but not the 20,000 kids Putin stole. Or the thousands of families who used to live in that 20% who had to leave or get killed. Or to people who believe no one should go into another country and then say, hey, this is mine now... Or the families of all the families of the Russian soldiers who Putin had killed taking that land.

This whole sequence of meetings has the feel of a scripted reality show. Trump the Nobel Prize earner.

Z-ski should take the deal and do the trilateral meeting.(no euro-weenies). This peace process is likely to take more than one meeting. It was good that there were no major public spats today.(Trump should have slapped yapper Merz for yapping ceasefire-no future invites for him)This went better than expected like the Alaska summit. Hope war ends soon.

I feel for Ukraine but they should have never gave up their nuclear weapons in 1994.

Once they did that, they should have maintained a large standing army. If they had 600,000 soldiers defending Ukraine in 2022, Putin wouldn't have invaded.

Spare Us your BS .

Its Chamberlain Sell out Part II ..and Trump the appeaser Sold Ukraine
and Europe to his buddy Putin who set up this fool .

The USA were already supposedly promised to protect Ukraine when the Clintons took their nuclear weapons .

Trump must have future business plans in Russia to sacrifice Ukraine .

Putin is a amoral KGB butcher and Trump knows it .

There is no security with evil Russia .

I am ashamed that a US President would grovel to a Russian Dictator.

Trump just killed the midterms and his Presidency .

Ukraine has only one way to get any land back and that’s to take it back by force.

There was a brief windows of opportunity during the summer of '22 but Biden did not give enough ammunition to Ukraine.

Before Russia did anything, Ukraine was shelling Russian speaking civilians in Crimea. Putin said stop or I will stop you. Ukraine didn’t stop and Putin started not a war, but a Special Military Operation to protect those civilians.

We can all moralize all we want but the SMO has done its announced job, the proof is in the battle maps. As a result, Russia is ready to deal on stopping, that’s why the first meeting happened. Now it’s just a matter of the terms. Good luck to both sides, hope they solve it soon.
