As President Donald Trump declared Washington, D.C., a crime-ridden wasteland in need of federal intervention this week and threatened similar federal interventions in other Black-led cities, several mayors compared notes.
The president’s characterization of their cities contradicts what they began noticing last year: that they were seeing a drop in violent crime after a pandemic-era spike. In some cases the declines were monumental, due in large part to more youth engagement, gun buyback programs and community partnerships.
Now members of the African American Mayors Association are determined to stop Trump from burying accomplishments that they already felt were overlooked. And they’re using the administration’s unprecedented law enforcement takeover in the nation’s capital as an opportunity to disprove his narrative about some of the country’s greatest urban enclaves.
“It gives us an opportunity to say we need to amplify our voices to confront the rhetoric that crime is just running rampant around major U.S. cities. It’s just not true,” said Van Johnson, mayor of Savannah, Georgia, and president of the African American Mayors Association. “It’s not supported by any evidence or statistics whatsoever.”

well, if you defund the police, redefine crime, or simply refuse to arrest certain skin shades, the arrest numbers go down; the number of crimes does not. The two numbers should not be conflated.

When you change charges of armed robbery to shoplifting, crimes plummet.
Declaring that when white people are the victims of violent crime as “they had it coming to them” is not a valid reason to statistically show that violent crime is down in their cities.
Redefining and ignoring certain violent crimes is not a way to show a drop in the crime rate.

WEll, when you define crime, don’t investigate it, or change the criteria of what a misdemeanor or felony is, sure you can make it look like violent crime is down.
What we saw that in 2024 was that Black men finally decided to vote against the Democratic Party.

STATS about inflation, unemployment, crime, STATS about nearly everything are questioned.
Official stats have a long history of being selectively collected, adjusted and interpreted. Food? don’t include it in statistics because it is too volatile (Price increases faster than staples).
They need to be “normed” so they can be compared with other statistics. The “norming” of statistics is useful...but only if the adjustments of reality are known and stated up front.
How to lie with Statistics, 1954 was the best book written in my lifetime.
It will likely require a Nay Seals training maneuver to remove Zelensky from the steering wheel. He personally has too much at stake to do anything that will end the war. Perhaps it would be est for a Spetznaz op to do the deed and they Putin settles for Donbas and Crimea. Perhaps giving back a sliver of one of those places. Trump can accuse the Russians of perfidy or whatever then mark out Ukraine on his blackboard with a half smile. Thar would be a pretty good Deal, I think.
