75 homeless camps in DC cleared by US Park Police since Trump’s ‘Safe and Beautiful’ executive order

Federal officials have cleared about 75 homeless camps around the nation’s capital under President Trump’s effort to clean up Washington, DC — and they’re not done yet.

United States Park Police have removed dozens of tents since the president penned the “Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful” executive order in March, the Department of the Interior told The Post Friday.

Authorities have also scrubbed up to 80 graffiti sites from Capitol Hill Parks as of Aug. 6, Interior officials said.

Interior leaders, led by Secretary Doug Burgum, are revising guidelines so there is a no-tolerance policy for illegal camping on National Park Service property in Washington, including no longer handing out warnings before vagrants are pushed off the public spaces.

The feds will also crack down on vandals who spray graffiti or cause damage to federal monuments, statues or buildings.

And what happened to the “homeless” that were inhabiting these camps? Did they just move somewhere else and create new encampments?

The best thing Trump could do to make these clean ups permanent is force states to reopen mental institutions for insane or drug-addicted homeless people and enact laws to keep them there involuntarily. Cleaning up homeless camps is good but they will be back if government does not put the insane and drug addicts in an institution.

Kinda reminds me of black New Yorkers. They supported Bernie Goetz.

I never saw homeless or beggars on the street (except in California) before the 1970s when the mental hospitals were closed down and the crazies dumped on the streets.
Also when vagrancy laws were removed. Suddenly they were everywhere and mass killings took off like a rocket.

Which one do you think the Democrats prefer? Before or After?

If you said "before" move to the front of the class.

After:

They continue their lifestyle somewhere else or change their lifestyle.

If they go to other overloaded camps they are not welcome. lot of fights and territories in a homeless camp. It is not a peacefull place.

I suspect most in dc are paid protesters. They will go home.

maybe some will go to a shelter?

The point being that homeless are not all the same.

We have SO waited for this USA to return. I am ecstatic!

All the weak, effete, ineffective, namby-pamby mousy politicians who came before deserve ignominy and shame for capitulating to the woke mob.

look at the dress and situation of some of the pictures shown tents taken down. I guess I could have used quotes, “homeless camps”.

“The Department of Justice will pursue maximum fines of $100,000 and up to a year in prison for offenders convicted of causing less than $1,000 in damage, according to the Interior.”

Said offenders have that kind of money?

“And what happened to the “homeless” that were inhabiting these camps?”

They went elsewhere.

They were homeless on some of the most expensive public property in the nation’s capital; now they are homeless on less expensive, less visible property - maybe somewhere in Maryland or Virginia.

At least it returns park areas in crowded Washington D.C. back to residents and visitors to use without having to confront squatters who don’t like taxpayers in their “living space.”
