Tom Homan Flags Overlooked Detail About Trump’s DC Takeover
The Daily Caller ^ | August 13, 2025 | Nicole Silverio

Border czar Tom Homan on Wednesday said that President Donald Trump’s federal takeover of Washington, D.C., means that the city can no longer enforce its sanctuary status.

Homan said on “The Story with Martha MacCallum” that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is working “hand-in-hand” with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), which has been federally taken over, to arrest and deport any illegal immigrant criminal in Washington. The border czar promised that any illegal immigrant who commits a crime will not be protected under any sanctuary law.

“I think D.C., under federal control, is not gonna be a sanctuary city. We’re working with the police hand-in-hand and if we encounter a criminal illegal alien, they will be turned over to ICE, and that’s how it should be. I mean, I’m not saying every illegal alien in D.C.’s a criminal, but many are. So these are people we’re gonna focus on. Illegal alien criminal safety threats in D.C. is not gonna be protected. There is no sanctuary for these people in D.C.,” Homan said.

The administration is tackling violent crime in the nation’s capital by having Attorney General Pam Bondi “take command” of the MPD and by deploying the National Guard. On the first night of Trump’s crackdown, around 850 officers and agents arrested 23 individuals for committing homicide, firearm and drug offenses, stalking, lewd acts and the possession of a high capacity magazine, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Tuesday.

With 30 National Guard troops and 750 uniformed officers on duty, law enforcement arrested 43 people on Tuesday night, according to Fox 5 Washington, D.C. A significantly larger National Guard troop presence is expected to take place on Wednesday.

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) data shows that violent crime has reportedly only gone down by 10% since 2024, although the MPD’s statistics claim that it has decreased by 26%. The MPD’s violent crime data excludes aggravated and felony assault, which makes the drop in violent crime appear larger than it is in reality.

The MPD suspended its police commander in May and opened an investigation into whether he manipulated data to make it appear as if crime had decreased at large rates.

Since Trump took office, illegal border crossings have decreased to the lowest levels ever recorded in U.S. history. The historic drop follows ICE’s crackdown on illegal immigration by arresting more than 300,000 illegal immigrants since Trump began his second term.

The number of detainees being held by ICE increased from 39,000 in January to over 60,000 as of August, according to The New York Times.

Brilliant as always. Tom Homan knows all the Democrat dirty tricks to block enforcement of our immigration laws.

Sanctuary Cities

Start with a smallish city
Work out the kinks
Purge all the illegals
Work your way up to Chicago, Austin, LA.......

I mean, I’m not saying every illegal alien in D.C.’s a criminal...

So we've decided breaking and entering into a country which is supposed to have strict border control laws is now only a misdemeanor (this is what the leftist press continues to print any time the subject comes up), and you are not considered a criminal for having done so, so you won't be arrested and deported? Is that what he's saying?

A city manager or mayor declaring it to be a ‘sanctuary city’ just means they’ve selected a few laws they don’t like and so won’t enforce. Doesn’t sound very legal to us laymen. And it certainly doesn’t seem like the kind of thing you’d do if you gave a s**t about your citizen’s lives.

Where do you even get those thoughts? What is the evidence? Right now the focus is on the criminals. If you get are associated, you get scooped up.

stop you whining. There are limited resources and priorities.

Look at ALL the things being done.

If I am not mistaken, illegal entry is and has been a misdemeanor for a long time, perhaps since the law was created.

According to AI, the first offense of illegal entry into the United States is typically classified as a misdemeanor. Specifically, under 8 U.S.C. § 1325, it is a misdemeanor to enter or attempt to enter the country at a time or place not designated by immigration officials, or to evade inspection. This can be punished by a fine, imprisonment for up to six months, or both. Subsequent offenses can be treated as felonies.

Like you, I don’t agree that it should start out as a misdemeanor, but that is how it is and has been written.

They may have had some justification for doing it that way, but I don’t know.

Correct. The left loves the use the formulation that illegal entry is a “civil offense.” They made that up and it’s not true. It’s a criminal offense, first offense is a misdemeanor as you say

How many people who snuck in here illegally or who were among the 10 or 15 million granted temporary asylum after dishonestly claiming asylum under Biden have not broken some other law since they have been here. They may be using one of the Social Security numbers of someone over 120 years old. They may not be showing up for their hearing on their asylum claim. They may be getting Medicaid. Etc. etc. etc.

“Technically, every illegal IS a criminal.”

Correct. Homan has said from the beginning that he will prioritize the dangerous violent criminal aliens first and worry about the ones who just lack paperwork later.

Yep. Entering the US without playing “Mother May I” is a misdemeanor.

Right Wing Free Market Capitalism is best...including free market in labor.

DUI driving, Drunk & Disorderly, Robbery, Rape, Murder are not Free Market Capitalism.

Homan and Trump are right.

Currently AI is very error prone. Be careful using it in a discussion.
