President Trump blasted India with 50 percent tariffs. The full force of these tariffs will come into effect on August 27, 2025.
President Trump’s instincts are spot on: India is on the verge of becoming China 2.0.
Unfortunately, the tariffs will do little to stop this. Why?
Because India isn’t coming for our manufacturing. They’re coming for our technology sector—and they’ve been remarkably successful both at scooping up jobs, and flying under the radar.
Consider that America lost roughly 5 million jobs to China since 2001. During the same period, America lost up to 4 million technology jobs to India. Not only that, but India now has access to sensitive American technology and information. This is America’s silent national emergency.
If we are serious about reshoring American industry, then tariffs on Indian products won’t cut it. We should also tariff Indian services.

Plus the Indians are here doing American tech jobs. So India has worked on both sides of the Pacific to steal American tech jobs.
I have worked in the tech industry for 40 years. The number of H1B visas from India is staggering...About 30-40% of the tech work force. Meanwhile, USA graduates (whether they be 1st Generation Indian or US from way back) can’t find a tech job..
Why? They pay the H1B visa works a fraction of US citizens.
Correct, that snake has two heads, can’t kill one unless the others as well. The untold truth is their work is subpar. We spend half our time fixing the stuff the offshore (and onshore) team does. It is BS that foreign workers lower costs because their stuff sucks.
Add a nice big annual fee for every h1b visa a company asks for.
This is why I don’t give a crap how much economic pain gets inflicted on India. Plus, the caliber of what comes out of IIT was far below that of US-born and educated engineers.
Don’t know why we keep bringing H1B here
Set up offices in China and India with American Supervisors.
Voila!
Problem solved...

The employers who hire them should be singled out for special attention.
End H-1b visa and kick out all the coolies.
Scoop up the tech jobs, yes.
But it wasn't done "flying under the radar" - it was done politicians of both Democrat and Republican variety - including Donald J. Trump want it.
They looove that Tech Bros campaign contribution money. LOVE IT.

Now 9 months unemployed chip designer
And 3.9 million of those 4.0 million jobs went to Rajiv, Rishi, Amit, Arjun, and Vikram in the 100,000 Customer Support Centers in India.
I would say that India is by far number one in running computer and phone scams against gullible people in the US.
This is why many young men have no desire to succeed.
I think I might phrase that differently. I don’t think the American Dream is there anymore for a lot of young men. Slaving away and being a good little worker who jumps through all the hoops that you are supposed to jump through doesn’t have the payoff it used to. The game is rigged, and some people are doing well, but for the most part it’s not young American men who are doing well. They don’t see a path to success, so they don’t see the point of it all.
H1B visas already have many steep fees on them
From AI:
The total cost for an H-1B petition can therefore range from approximately $2,030 to over $8,800, depending on the employer’s size, the need for premium processing, and other associated fees.
This para was the concluding para for the question. Above it is a profile of all the many fees from various categories that employers must pay and then AI added them up, above.

Owen the H~1b visa is an abomination. Let it go.
2 to 8 grand isn’t a steep fee
Make it 10x that amount
Impose a 50% tariff on “imported services” or more as necessary and much higher fees on H1b hires
$1.14 billion in gov’t revenue is rec’d from H1B fees each year.
I suppose we could raise income taxes to offset that loss.
The GOP would never accept cutting spending that much.
