PEORIA, Ariz. - The owner of a successful Peoria sushi restaurant, who has lived in the U.S. for more than two decades without legal status, is facing deportation to Hong Kong within weeks.
What we know: Kelly Yu was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on May 28 and has been held at the Eloy Detention Center.
Her husband, Aldo, said she came to the U.S. when she was 19 and pregnant, seeking a better life and trying to escape China's one-child policy.
"She came here 21 years ago," Aldo said Monday, Aug. 11.
Homeland Security Investigations confirmed Yu had entered the U.S. illegally from Mexico in 2004 and was ordered to be removed in 2005. She pursued several appeals that were all denied, with her final appeal dismissed in 2016.

It does seem strange that she didn’t try to get citizenship. She’d be a shoe in with a successful business and providing jobs and revenue to the country.
Bye bye now.
Sushi isn’t real food and you’re not a real American. Get back to where you came from.
“It does seem strange that she didn’t try to get citizenship. She’d be a shoe in with a successful business and providing jobs and revenue to the country.”
She’s probably suspected of being a CCP operative. There are plenty of them in the US. She obviously wanted to remain under the radar.
I wish they would deprt Tampon Walz….he loves China anyway.
Why did Illinois give up on Peoria? Did Arizona buy it?
Who wants taco flavored sushi, anyway?
You can not get citizenship by arriving illegally. You can not even get green card by arriving illegally.
One must arrive on a LEGAL visa to qualify for green card (permanent resident visa). And one needs green card before qualifying to apply for citizenship.
If she didn’t want to be a citizen for two decades then we should believe her
You’re right. Why didn’t she get a green card?
She didn’t have to be illegally here.
Kelly Yu was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on May 28 and has been held at the Eloy Detention Center. …She’s lucky that they didn’t send her to the Morlock Detention Center.
She may be a boot in, or possibly a welly in (if she was in the UK). Slipper in (my personal fav) is also possible but I hope for her sake she’s not a galosh in. Those get messy.
Once deported, she can file a form I-212 Permission to
Re-apply for Admission Into the United States
After Deportation or Removal once she is no longer time barred from doing so.
Illegal aliens are ineligible for citizenship.
Get used to thess heart tugging stories in the liberal press. There will be a new one every day. I’m sure they already have a catalogue of them ready to go. It’s to be expected that folks like this will get caught in the big net. Oh, well.
Well they did say they were going after the criminals first, busting up families is not a good idea, especially if they have not caused trouble and have worked. This type needs special consideration since they are not on the government dole and are working. Save this for last, not just to impress with some numbers quota. They should give this type consideration to get green cards if they have led productive lives.
She has a husband and daughter here presumably legally or both US citizens. There is more to this story. She has one child but claims she fled China to avoid the one-child policy? Something does not seem right in Peoria.
I feel bad for her but... at least they haven’t yet caught my yard guy!! He’s impossible to replace.
Did you know he took out a massively overgrown (and dangerous) Palo Verde Desert Museum for only $400!? Proper tree places wanted $2000 for that monster (note: never put those things on emitters - bad move).
I said to him, “I’ll give you $400 to remove that tree anytime you have time.” He just nodded and a week later showed up to remove the tree. Never complains does my yard guy. He’s as illegal as they come.
Tough titties, we couldn’t go to China and just camp out and stay forever either.
