Uh Oh, Runaway Democrats Have to Stay Away for Years

Governor Abbott is going to call a special session every 30 days until the redistricting map is completed.

If Democrats want to avoid arrest, they had better stay away. They might as well start voting in the state where they are.

“So first, this could literally last years, because in Texas, I’m authorized to call a special session every 30 days. It lasts 30 days, and as soon as this one is over, I’m going to call another one, then another one, then another one, then another one.

They’re also delaying legislation to help flood victims recover and rebuild, so it’s not just redistricting that is impeded by their actions.

“Weren’t they all going to lose their position last Friday?”

That takes some time. The paperwork has been filed. This looks like plan “B” in case a legal issue arises.

He’s telling them, “Don’t count on the courts to save your bacon

RE: delaying legislation to help flood victims recover and rebuild...

Why isn’t that on the news every ten minutes?

As well as “Dems already did crooked districting to cheat GOP out of many seats in several states.”

Leftists news say “Epstein causes MAGA to split up in panic”
and “Tariffs cause food prices and all merchandise to cost more week by week. Out of control inflation soon.”

We have to get the bad news out to the slack jawed unwashed American people.

I thought the FBI was going to arrest their asses, and Abbot was going to move to have the seats vacated? Now he’s saying this could go on for years? WTH?

He has cut their office expenses, stopped them from receiving paychecks unless they pick them up in person, and is squeezing them hard.

Plus, Trump is using this to show the public how the Democrats are using this technique in other states already and are far more unfair.

Given their salary as a member of the Texas Legislature is $600 a month, I doubt the loss of a paycheck is devastating. I assume an AWOL member is denied the per diem paid when the legislature is in session.

I thought the FBI was going to arrest their asses

The absent members have arrest warrants out for them, but they are not criminal arrest warrants. The courts look to the British Parliament when deciding what exactly a legislature is, and what it can do. The British Parliament, when the Constitution was adopted, could issue arrest warrants, for the purpose of insuring it is able to operate effectively, and have law enforcement act on them.

So state police may execute legislative arrest warrants from their own state, and I assume the FBI may execute a Congressional arrest warrant, if one was issued.

But there is no precedent for law enforcement to execute legislative arrest warrants from another sovereign, much less an inferior one. Certainly during the century or so when England and Scotland were separate countries, but had the same ruler, a Scottish Constable would not have executed a legislative arrest warrant from Westminster, and an English Constable would not have executed one from Holyrood.

So, in the absence of legislation authorizing it, the FBI is very unlikely to get into the business of executing arrest warrants issued by state, or territorial, legislatures.

Abbot does not have legal grounds to extradite the fled Democrats from another State. He can have them arrested and returned to a session of the State legislature if they return to Texas and a legislative session is active.

What the Democrats have done is not a criminal offense in Texas.

It is not clear that Abbot can vacate the seats of the fled Democrats. That depends on a ruling from a sympathetic judge and some strained interpretation of existing statues. There is no law in Texas which specifically allows this.

True. But many of them have day jobs (attorneys, realtors, etc.) and being stuck in Illinois or Massachusetts is like hard on some of them financially. I suspect that slush funds are paying for their absence behind the scenes.

Correct, the FBI can’t do any arrests. What they can do, though, is keep the dems under observation, and let Texas know when any of the dems get on a plane; the FBI can provide the airline name, flight number, destination, and ETA. Saves Texas the cost of sending someone to DC to keep the dems under surveillance.

Right, that is exactly what was threatened. You start removing them they be on the first plane back. Has Abbott gone wobbly again?
