Internal Homeland Security documents describing specifications for border-crossing scanners, which emit gamma or X-ray radiation to probe vehicles and their occupants, are raising new health and privacy concerns, CNET has learned.
Even though a public outcry has prompted Homeland Security to move away from adding X-ray machines to airports--it purchased 300 body scanners last year that used alternative technology instead--it appears to be embracing them at U.S.-Mexico land border crossings as an efficient way to detect drugs, currency, and explosives.

Sometimes the absence of the story is telling.
This was in 2012.
At all borders you now have complete vehicle scanners.
People are being X-rayed and there is no informing people this is going on.
There is no option to opt out.
They do not ask if any women are pregnant...
On the web you have near silence on the issue, maybe some local and limited coverage recently (but near complete silence), example: https://www.borderreport.com/immigration/border-crime/vehicle-scanners-going-up-at-el-paso-area-border-crossings/
There is no such thing as a "safe" level of x-ray radiation. It's just bad for you, period.
Only at a certain level is there empirical evidence of short term side effects to where a direct correlation exists between the radiation expose and some adverse side effects. However, radiation also has a cumulative effect.
When crossing the border and asking the CBP agent if these were X-ray machines, they admitted "yes," but then went on to say "these are low energy X-rays." Not making that up. I didn't know if I should be angered at the response, of just feel pity for the CBP officers ignorance. That is the sort of nonsense they instruct CBP personnel to tell folks if this is mentioned.
What ever happened to privacy rights, a public discourse of the issue, so called government "transparency" we used to lecture everyone about?
Very Orwellian.
It is normal for all of the illegal aliens to tell the turds in the yellowstream “Media” that everyone in the family can’t go back to their homes because they all have cancer, toe fungus and diarrhea.
Great idea! Post signs saying that entering the USA illegally is a cancer risk.
There is a great video of one of those Sovereign Citizens trying to return across the Mexican border back into the USA. He actually runs the entire script:
“I’m traveling, not driving” “this vessel (his truck) is private property)” “I don’t need to show you any identification” etc. Instead of just two border officers, a few more gather around. This SovCit continues, and they pull him out of the truck. His passenger is just shaking his head. The passenger provided his identification, still shaking his head at the antics of his ‘friend.’
Pity, those guys are getting radiated every day and the gov don't give a damn. Not a big union fan but issues like this is why unions are a necessary evil.
👍
Most people crossing illegally don’t do it at a border crossing.
They do it a few miles West or East of that checkpoint.
We’re shooting X-Rays through people without informing them, without asking for consent, without making provisions for those that might have an issue with that, without making any exceptions for those that may be pregnant...
This is how our government does things.
Try to sneak it by.
Make it normal and acceptable.
Tell folks some BS about “low energy X-rays,” and have a clown from the EPA put a stamp on a piece of paper that says it’s safe to be X-rayed constantly.
Do you realize you have people that “legally” cross that border every day? Truckers, people that live on one side and work on the other...
This is unfair to border crossers!
Of course the US populace that flies, goes into a court room or federal building, ect. ect. ect. they don’t have the same concerns. </S>
If it can see through your car, it’s not “low-energy.”

“What doesn't kill me makes me stronger!”
Another benefit is that glow-in-the dark aliens are easier to hunt down.
👍
“What ever happened to privacy rights”
‘Public Safety’. Every time.
Good! I hope it kills every one of them.
Put up a sign.
Ryan said the technology emits “low energy” and is “lower than a dental exam, or a chest X-ray or CAT scan or anything like that.”
