DC police commander placed on leave over 'deliberately' falsifying crime data

As attention has turned to Washington, DC and crime in the district in the wake of a former DOGE employee being attacked, it has been revealed that a commander with the Metropolitan Police Department was placed on paid administrative leave in mid-May after being accused of falsifying crime data.

Commander Michael Pulliam was placed on leave and under investigation for questionable changes to crime data, five law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation told NBC 4. Pulliam was the commander of the 3rd District, which patrols the Adams Morgan and Columbia Heights neighborhoods.

The police union has accused Pulliam of deliberately falsifying the data, and claimed that police supervisors in the department have been manipulating crime data to make it seem as though violent crime has fallen considerably in the district compared to 2024.

Fraternal Order of Police Chairman Gregg Pemberton said, "When our members respond to the scene of a felony offense where there is a victim reporting that a felony occurred, inevitably there will be a lieutenant or a captain that will show up on that scene and direct those members to take a report for a lesser offense. So, instead of taking a report for a shooting or a stabbing or a carjacking, they will order that officer to take a report for a theft or an injured person to the hospital or a felony assault, which is not the same type of classification."

From what I understand, many large cities have been "fudging" their crime reports.

That is the flaw in any type of self reporting.

People will lie—especially if lying enhances their career or bonuses in some way.

Crime stats, BLS, etc... I sense a pattern here. When you lie about what is really going on how in the hell are you supposed to fix the problem? I know DEMs don’t want to fix anything just stay in power by any means necessary.

Crime prevention is not a true police function.
It is a societal issue.

The police commissioner in almost every large city should be placed on leave if falsifying crime data is an offense. Of course, some of it is actually sanctioned by the federal, state and city administrations so this may be scapegoating.

There is no crime if it is not reported.

1) Encourage law-abiding citizens to carry guns.
2) Adopt a very broad definition of self-defense.
3) Watch how fast society becomes peaceful and polite.

They are human.

They like getting bonuses and getting promoted.

If you reward people for lying many will lie.

Anecdote from one company I worked in years ago...

I was young and didn’t know anything about the business but had a great interview and talked myself into a supervisory job.

The first year was tough—had trouble making the numbers I was supposed to make and it looked it my career with the company was going to be a short one.

Then one of the more senior folks took me aside and explained how it really worked.

There was a way to fudge the numbers each year and senior management would never catch it because it required a deep understanding of how the business worked (and none of them had that).

I followed the guy’s advice—easily made my numbers and got nice bonuses year after year....

I paid it forward as well.

Just before I left for a better opportunity I pulled a young rookie supervisor aside and taught him the tricks of the trade.

To this day (many decades later) I don’t think senior management ever figured out what we did...

“The Wire” on HBO had the main character refer to this as ‘juking’ the stats. Google AI has a nice summery.

The “police union” accuses the “Police Commander” of deliberately falsifying data?

Is this a first?

Add to this all of the crimes at various levels that now go unreported because the Soros-selected prosecutor imposters have made a public policy of nullifying laws against shoplifting, purse-snatching, mugging, auto theft, and a host of other crimes that drastically impact the quality of life in America’s cities. All exactly as planned.
