It wasn’t supposed to be like this.
A big, explosive controversy that’s impossible to ignore! A jaw-dropping confession that outraged his corporate bosses! Or maybe he’d finally suffer the consequences of speaking “truth to power” — and pay the ultimate price for refusing to back down!
That’s how “The Howard Stern Show” was supposed to end.
This November marks the 100th anniversary of TS Eliot’s haunting poem, “The Hollow Men.” It’s a telling coincidence, for it foretold not just the fate of the world, but of a certain shock-jock: “This is the way the [Howard Stern Show] ends; Now with a bang but a whimper.”
This week, the news broke:
BREAKING: Howard Stern’s show is now being canceled by SiriusXM.

But calling it a whimper would be an overstatement. It was more of a “tree falling in a forest when no one’s around” situation, because Howard Stern’s audience abandoned him years ago: "Stern’s program has fluctuated from 20 million daily to just 125,000 of late."
That’s an astonishing fall from grace. There are, quite literally, thousands of nameless, faceless YouTubers, TikTokers, X posters, and “influencers” with far larger audiences than the one-time “King of All Media.” During his heyday, 20 million Americans famously listened to Howard Stern to “see what he says next”:
And now he’s a nobody.
Of course, he’s a very wealthy nobody. If your bank account is the only litmus test that matters, then Howard Stern is the greatest, most successful radio personality of all time. He made more money than everyone else, including Rush Limbaugh.

I remember him, for a time, from when I worked in Midtown for 11yrs, back in the 80s/early-90s. He was funny back then, but turned to crap. Many riding Amtrak or ConRail into Penn Station had earplugs in, and were smiling; that’s how I could tell who was listening to his morning show.
His wig still looks OK.
WHY is this a big deal? Who cares.
I never listened to his show, considered him to be nothing but a pervert appealing to no ne but teenaged boys.
Personally, I don’t find anything sad about the ending of the Howard Stern show except that it took this long.
I don’t like Howard Stern. I really really don’t like him.
Almost 30 years ago, I owned and operated a public shooting range. One of my regular customers used to bring his own paper targets. They had Howard Stern’s face printed on them...lol..
“””I only knew one person in my life who subscribed to Sirius radio,”””
I had one for a short time years ago. I didn’t know it was still a thing.
He was funny mid 80s with the lesbian dating game on AM radio in nyc Jersey area
I was on the GW first time I heard it around 1985
My girlfriend and I was laughing so hard stuck in traffic going home to 115 and morningside
Can’t stand him now
Always has been...and always will be...a vile, worthless punk.
You might say he’s self deporting from what some called entertainment.
Well,I guess that being a radio scumbag has worked well for him...financially speaking.
When a guy changes, always look at the wife.
When he was still married to Allison, he was much different.
Every time I see a picture of Stern, I get a whiff of brimstone. He is one of the few truly evil people with no redeeming qualities at all.
The beginning was sad and pathetic too.
Stern went “behind the paywall” to avoid FCC regs. Because the terrestrial stations were tired of getting fined for his crap and were getting ready to drop him. But that was also the beginning of the end, because those FCC fines provided him with lots of free (to him at least) publicity. Without that to remind people he still exists the fade began.
>>>Howard Stern’s audience abandoned him years ago: “Stern’s program has fluctuated from 20 million daily to just 125,000 of late.
Beautiful, never listen to him once!
As a fiscal conservative, pay radio passed me by.
Paying for radio when you could Rush for free on AM radio?
C’mon man, that’s crazy.
Paying for radio is as crazy as paying for drinking water when you can get it for free out of a tap.
Stern is worth 500 million, has a beautiful wife, so lets get real. He couldn’t care less what happens or if everybody hates him and ridicules him. He has three daughters who probably love him. He can leave all his clown money to them.
F U money changes everything. I wish I had one million dollars of it.
I was a Stern fan and way back in 1990 he had a Saturday night TV show that was short lived. I saw this show and at least one skit would have Stern in blackface and talking the stupidest kind of uneducated ghetto jive. With Robin Quivers as his foil.
I hate this loon and I always have. I literally got XM radio instead of Sirius, because of him, even though you had to pay extra to hear him.
Then XM and Sirius merged, and they made him a regular part of the network and raised the price to ALL OF US to cover it.
