MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Muskogee police shot and killed a man they said pointed a rifle at a code enforcement officer.
Heather Blackwelder heard the gunfire outside her home in the Walnut Creek Neighborhood near Country Club Rd and Augusta Ave.
“That’s when I saw the Muskogee PD out front and their Bearcat with rifles pointed at my neighbor’s house,” said Blackwelder.
Officers responded to the home near 600 Christy Drive after a call about a man pointing a rifle at a code enforcement officer, then going back into his home.
Police identified the man as Clayton Bailey, 34. They said code enforcement wanted to talk to him about high grass that needed to be cut.
“Very unusual,” said Devin Cochran. “Very unusual. This neighborhood doesn’t have anything that happens like this.”
Cochran has lived nearby for the last year. He didn’t know Bailey, but said he would’ve helped.
“He could’ve come out and just asked,” said Cochran. “Just ask for some help. It’s what we all need sometimes.”
After police say the suspect pointed a gun at code enforcement, MPD brought in its Special Operations Team.
Police said he came back outside and shot at officers several times. Officers returned fire, killing him.
“I didn’t know what to think,” said Blackwelder. “This kind of thing just doesn’t happen.”

How high was the grass?
Suicide-by-cop.
Unattended, Elephant Grass can climb up to 15 feet!
Many choose this kind of grass (to grow), because it’s low maintenance and drought tolerant.
Looked Clayton Bailey up in the online court system and there was only a Debt recovery for $4k.
No rap sheet or old drug charges.
Then don’t point guns at people.
“We don’t let our grass grow long and shaggy...
That’s why I’m proud to be an Okie from Muskogee...”
He shot first.
FAFO.
So the tulips were “too close to the sidewalk, by 0.50 inches.”
Don’t point a gun at police.
And especially don’t shoot at them.
From the pic it didn’t look too high...like mine gets during the rainy season. But the deceased response was inappropriate, even if code enforcer was a complete jerk( I have seen those)...
Coulda’ been under the influence ...classic shame...
I watched the video and couldn’t really see anything that looked excessive.
People on that street take their lawns a little too seriously I would say.
“””The U.S. has very invasive government in too many places. Some people just need to be left alone. A man shouldn’t be dead because he didn’t mow his lawn this week.”””
I have had to deal with code enforcers over some stupid stuff caused by Karen neighbors who live to complain. They are just doing their job. Pointing a rifle at anyone is a really stupid idea.
Once you point a weapon at someone, all bets are off.

Clayton, yo big dummee!
Just a Dumb Dead Okie from Muskogee.
He’s dead because he shot at the cops. Everything else is irrelevant.
