Trump Tells European Leaders He Intends to Meet With Putin and Zelensky

If the meeting goes ahead as President Trump described, it will be the first in-person summit between an American and Russian president in more than four years.

President Trump intends to meet in person with President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia as soon as next week, and he plans to follow up shortly afterward with a meeting between himself, Mr. Putin and President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine, according to two people familiar with the plan.

Mr. Trump disclosed his plans on Wednesday in a call with European leaders, which included Mr. Zelensky, the people said. The meetings would include only the three men, and would not include European counterparts.

Asked later Wednesday if Russia and Ukraine had agreed to the summit, Mr. Trump told reporters: “There’s a very good prospect that they will.”

Mr. Putin’s spokesman, Dmitri S. Peskov, did not respond to a request for comment, but Mr. Zelensky appeared to signal that a direct meeting was possible.

“It seems that Russia is now more committed to a cease-fire. The pressure on them is working,” Mr. Zelensky said in his evening address to the nation. “But the main thing is that they do not deceive us or the United States in the details.”

Just a meeting with Mr. Trump would represent something of a victory for Mr. Putin. Since the Ukraine invasion, he has been largely isolated by NATO leaders, who refused to deal with him directly until Mr. Trump started phone conversations with the Russian leader after coming to office. But the plan reflects Mr. Trump’s deep belief that his powers of persuasion, especially in an in-person meeting, are the only way to strike a bargain.

If the meeting goes ahead as Mr. Trump described, it would be the first in-person summit between an American and Russian president in...

"Z" will stomp his feet and hold his breath until he turns blue....when he finds out that they're going to draw a line like Korea and stop the killing.

What does "Z" get....Odessa and no more killing of Ukrainians.

Trump will have to ignore the EU Fascists warlords or he will never get a peace deal. The EU is broke, have no significant resources, are losing control of their citizens and the only answer for the elites is war.

Good. If that’s the case then he has probably agreed with Putin’s demands for a ceasefire. Now Trump just has to get Zelensky in line. Trump still wants that Nobel Peace Prize lol.

Will the Europeans sabotage any plans for a peace agreement. They did before.

Odessa might be important to Z but he doesn’t give a flying fig about Ukranian lives. Only their wives and families care about those dead young men and want the live ones to stay alive.

There is no mention of a meeting venue. Perhaps it will be virtual. Putin can’t risk assassination by travelling places his security service has not vetted. That may make a US territory meeting next week impossible. There hasn’t been time.

He will.

Z is between a “rock & a hard place.”

If he continues, he’ll lose, if he capitulates he’ll be removed by his hard liners that want Ukrainian real estate back.

I can’t see Z in the same room with Putin. The Russians will never allow it.

I think Trump will probably push for a face to face meeting. In a room together, Zelensky will have an advantage as he speaks both English and Russian fairly well. Trump speaks no Russian, and Putin apparently speaks little or no English. How much would Trump trust a Russian translator? With Zelensky there to catch nuances of Russian language, and both Trump and Z to read Putin’s body Putin would not get away with funny business. Location is a real problem as there is also a War Crimes charge and possible arrest that Putin has to consider. Perhaps one of the rich, tourist entertaining Arab countries will be a possible venue. Trump would probably like that since he favors luxury settings like Trump Towers and palatial ball rooms.

Nuclear power presidential meetings have all matters already defined with the meeting taking place to sign documents already vetted in multiple languages. There would be no further negotiation relevant, since the documents are pre-printed.

The Witkoff meeting carried the US proposal to Moscow and it was largely agreed. Any face to face would be for Moscow and Washington to sign the documents. Zelensky and Europe will face realities, as have all parties.

Conversation seems irrelevant with the documents already printed, as they would be prior to any such meeting.

You're 100% correct.
The Ukrainian people want this little, homo punk gone.
Their reported death toll numbers are also a complete joke. It's much, much.... higher.

Since when has any printed document prevented Trump from changing his mind? He wants access to those rare earth minerals in Eastern Ukraine. Could he ever trust an occupying Russia to move forward with providing them?
