UK Secret Services Plotting Maritime Ecological Disaster — [Russian] Foreign Intelligence Service
TASS ^ | 8/4/25

"The plan involves organizing a major act of sabotage the losses of which would allow the transportation of Russian oil to be declared a threat to all international shipping," the document said

MOSCOW, August 4. /TASS/. The UK's secret services are planning to enlist NATO allies in a large-scale operation targeting the "shadow fleet," which could lead to an environmental disaster in international waters, the press bureau of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) said in a statement obtained by TASS.

"British secret services are planning ecological disaster in international waters. The press bureau of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation informs that, according to the information coming to the SVR, the British secret services are planning to involve NATO allies in a massive roundup for the ‘shadow fleet’," the statement said.

According to London's plan, the impetus for such a campaign should be provided by "a resonant incident involving one or more tankers."

"The plan involves organizing a major act of sabotage the losses of which would allow the transportation of Russian oil to be declared a threat to all international shipping. This would untie Western countries’ hands in choosing methods of counteraction," the document said.

Two scenarios and actors

According to the SVR, the British are working on "two potential casus belli." "The first scenario implicates setting up an ‘unwanted’ tanker accident in one of bottlenecks of sea communications (for example, in straits). As it is believed in London, oil spills and fairway blocking would provide NATO countries with ‘sufficient’ grounds for establishing a precedent of ‘extraordinary’ vessel inspection under the guise of maritime safety and environmental regulations compliance," the statement noted.

"The second one involves setting fire to a tanker at loading in a port of a state friendly to Russia. It is expected that the fire........

All I need to know about the Brits is that they handed the Cossacks back to the Red commissars after WWII.

Typically Soviet / Russian...

The Kremlin creates a fantasy, then condemn its opponents for imminently trying to implement that fantasy, while Russia is already real acts of sabotages all over Europe. Blame the others for what you are already doing yourself - typically NeoSoviet!

A broader lesson here.

When governments pass laws and policies, etc and they don’t work, those govenments have 2 choices
1) Double down on what doesn’t work with more governemnt
or
2) Reduce government and let the free market work.

But you were OK with the Brits attempting to keep the 13 colonies under their thrall, operating brutal prison ships off the East Coast, then re-invading the USA in 1812?

Well, Sweden gov’mt did find that the sabotage of the Russian gas pipeline was ...... terrorism. I think they accused Ukraine.
So, would the present UK gov’mt commit sabotage to help their money laundering and sex trafficking friends in Ukraine? Sure. In for a penny, in for a pound.

And the Poles. The Polish fliers who aided the RAF during the Battle of Britain were sent back to Poland after the War under ?Russia. Amazon Prime has a film that details it.

The Russians are rightly worried that ports and tankers entering and exiting ports are going to be targeted in some way. Whether overt drone strikes on ports or more covert cyberattacks, sabotage and jamming of navigation systems as tankers and pilot ships maneuver in and near ports and shipping lanes approaching ports. You could even see non lethal “mines” that could jam signals or cause targeted damage to propellers without blowing up the ship.
I’m sure Trump is asking Gulf states to up production and sales to India. I would think that insurance companies would be advising India that seaborne oil shipping rates of oils from Russia is going up.
For India, the risk of getting oil from a war zone-Russian ports isn’t worth disruption of its oil supplies.

Yeah, it was at the end of the film Hurricane: 303 Squadron.

Brits are scum, and they're licking the sandals of the Musloids right now.

IIRC, the Brits were going to hand Anna Schmidt back to the Soviets, albeit reluctantly, at the end of The Third Man -- an excellent film.

An excellent film, but I thought that was an undetone from the beginning, not near the end. The Director, Carol Reed, rewrote Graham Greene's ending when Holly Martins is trying to catch up with the walking Anna Schmidt, and Greene had to admit that Reed improved it.

It’s amusing that Cossacks were your go to , top-of-mind example of British perfidy and treachery — yet other examples are far more brutal and nefarious

Put another way, I am more concerned about Americans than Cossacks.

YMMV, of course.
