Uber says over 100 sexual assault accusers submitted fake receipts

Uber said it found more than 100 instances in which passengers who claimed its drivers sexually assaulted or harassed them offered bogus or doctored receipts to prove ridership, or did not explain their inability to provide receipts.

In a Wednesday court filing, Uber urged US District Judge Charles Breyer in San Francisco to order 21 plaintiffs with suspect receipts to justify why their claims should not be dismissed, and 90 plaintiffs to provide receipts or “non-boilerplate” reasons for their absence.

At least 11 law firms represent the various plaintiffs, court papers show. They were not accused of wrongdoing “We take any allegations seriously and are reviewing Uber’s latest claims,” lawyers Rachel Abrams, Sarah London and Roopal Luhana, who lead the federal litigation on behalf of the plaintiffs, said in a joint statement.

They added that Uber knows some sexual assault victims may lack receipts because other people ordered their rides, and the possible elevated risk of being assaulted that guest passengers face makes Uber’s focus on documentation “more troubling.”

Uber has maintained it should not be liable for criminal conduct by drivers it connects with passengers, and that its background checks and disclosures were sufficient.

On July 8, Breyer dismissed some fraud and liability claims that were based on ads promoting Uber’s ride-sharing service as a safe alternative to drunk driving.

In Wednesday’s filing, Uber said some fake receipts appear to have been generated through third-party websites. Uber said some receipts contained math errors or bogus surcharges, changed female driver names to male names, were timestamped before rides occurred, had stray marks, or used formatting that does not match its own.

One plaintiff submitted two receipts for a single ride, while two plaintiffs submitted different versions of the same receipt, the company said.

Agreed. Across the US lawyers ability to lie and to hide the truth with no check is a major problem. It is systemic and not limited to uber, nor to politics, nor to any area. It seems to be pervalent in the profession.

Feminazi heads will explode.

“A woman would NEVER lie about something like that!” has been their mantra which has inflicted a legion of harm.

Ask Justice Kavanaugh.

Back in the day, 80% of all rape accusations in DC were false.

100 out of how many? IOW, how many complaints are there per year? Call me prejudiced, but I am a little leary of getting into a car with an arabic looking male. It’s different than a cab driver.

A major failing of Uber/Lyft, etc. With cab companies there is an infrastructure at risk, so vetting/experience was critical. With the throw away economy of Uber there is no concept of liability.

They don’t provide these statistics because it looks bad.

The government (((lies))) like that a lot. For example, after 1994 you’re just not going to find anything which connects homosexuals to pedophillia. They will collect every imaginable metric and variable but INTENTIONALLY do not collect that data when an arrest etc. is made.

Years ago they released an interesting statistic on government employees that file for sexual/racial discrimination and do the whole EEO route.

OVER 90% of the accusations are bogus. But when you dangle this option before people and they can accuse someone that gave them a bad performance evaluation, crappy task, less desirable duty location, or refused and award, etc. and there are no repercussions for lying, what do you think many people do?

But here’s that really nasty thing. These people making these allegations are putting people careers and livelyhoods at risk, they are committing libel and slander, the definition of such, and because we want to create a work space where people feel there is no retaliation, there are no consequences for lying and committing this libel and slander, wasting thousands in tax dollars as an investigation is conducted, even hearings, mediation, etc.

***Over 90% of the accusations are BS!***
