The president said Mexico agreed to eliminate non-tariff trade barriers, though he did not specify what those were.
President Donald Trump has announced a 90-day extension to a trade deal deadline with Mexico, delaying the imposition of new tariffs.
The announcement came just hours before the Aug. 1 deadline, which would have triggered a 30% tariff on products imported from Mexico.
"The complexities of a Deal with Mexico are somewhat different than other Nations because of both the problems, and assets, of the Border," President Trump said on Truth Social. "We have agreed to extend, for a 90 Day period, the exact same Deal as we had for the last short period of time, namely, that Mexico will continue to pay a 25% Fentanyl Tariff, 25% Tariff on Cars, and 50% Tariff on Steel, Aluminum, and Copper."
Trump also said Mexico agreed to eliminate non-tariff trade barriers, though he did not specify what those were.

Talks are expected to continue over the next three months in hopes of reaching a more permanent agreement.
"There will be continued cooperation on the Border as it relates to all aspects of Security, including Drugs, Drug Distribution, and Illegal Immigration into the United States," President Trump added.
The White House has recently announced trade agreements with several other partners, including South Korea and the European Union. Still, questions remain about Trump’s broader trade strategy. Economists and industry leaders warn that consumers could ultimately face higher prices as companies pass on the cost of tariffs.

One thing I’ve been kind of consistently surprised by are which countries have been reasonable and cooperative during this process and which ones have not. It hasn’t always lined up the way I thought it would.
A deadline is either an actual deadline or it isn’t. The constant act of trying to determine what is, or what might be tariffed, is getting ridiculous.
And yet, Trump is getting the job done for our country.
I bet you hate the "mean tweets" too.
As is so common at FR, he didn’t read the article.
The not inconsequential existing tariffs: 25% (punishment I assume) for Fentanyl traffic, 25% on Cars, and 50% on Steel, Aluminum, and Copper.
Nice try. I bet you needed a nap after that thinking that comment up.
One day the tariffs are on, the next they aren't is playing havoc with the planning within a business. Like it or not, it's a reality. Since it's started, our business alone has probably wasted between 1,500 and 2,000 hours just trying to figure out what's what, and what are actual costs might be.
So yeah, if someone is going to say they are going to do something, then they should do it. Otherwise, it starts to come across as that blowhard at the bar that talks crap but doesn't back it up.
