I was recently talking with a nice Dutch lady in her 30s - she was telling me how she and many of her friends went through Catholic confirmation even though they were athiests - I was a cultural thing and they accepted the cognitive dissonance. I think it may be changing for the better away from that model in people younger (teens and 20s) both on this and that side of the atlantic.
