What’s Wrong With Americans?
Powerline ^ | July 29, 2025 | John Hinderaker

By rights, Republicans should be ascendant. The Democrats are in disarray. Their ideas are deeply unpopular–open borders, men in women’s sports, soft on crime, $37 trillion in debt, woke national defense, perpetrators of the worst scandal in American history, and so on. Beyond that, they are crazy. And they don’t have a single attractive spokesman or spokeswoman. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has been triumphant, enacting one popular policy after another, while scoring victory after victory for the American people.

And yet…voters apparently can’t tell the difference. Rasmussen finds that the parties are equal in the eyes of likely voters:

Six months into President Donald Trump’s second term, the two major parties are almost evenly matched in terms of voters’ approval.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 48% of Likely U.S. Voters have a favorable impression of the Republican Party, while 47% view the Democratic Party favorably.

There are more data at the link, but the only significant difference between the parties in this data set is that more people hate the Republicans:

Overall, the differences in the two parties’ favorability are minor, the most significant being that more voters (36%) have a Very Unfavorable opinion of the GOP compared to 31% with a Very Unfavorable impression of Democrats. That’s mainly due to more negative views of Republicans among independent voters.

I have seen similar poll data elsewhere. It is hard to reconcile these numbers with the reality of what the parties stand for, and how they have been performing. What accounts for the mysterious appeal of the Democratic Party?

The title poses the wrong question. A right question is:

What action can I take to make likely voters see how rotten the Democrat party is and how beneficial the MAGA movement is?

You cannot convince a person to leave a cult.
There has to be a conversion experience (gk. metanoia).
That requires either a true crisis, or a great spiritual awakening, or both. It is not in our hands.

Bring those gas prices down, car and truck prices down...it’s the economy, it is always the economy.

Problem is, it takes time to reverse all the demoralizing damage the regulatory powers did to industry, Jamaal biz, and the economy.

The question in the title can be answered in two words:
Media propaganda.

So, yeah. If you hear 1+1 = 3 often enough, you’re eventually going to believe it.
And then you’ll fill in the blank 1+1 = __ with a 3.

Rasmussen finds that the parties are equal in the eyes of likely voters:

Pollsters have proven to be data manipulators rather that accurate reporters of public sentiment.

“ What action can I take to make likely voters see how rotten the Democrat party is and how beneficial the MAGA movement is”

Allow Biden and co to insurrection on Jan 6 while Az is trying to object to the cheating Biden did. He had not yet been declared the winner. Trump was still president

Allow Biden and co to completely screw up the country to SHOW people what happened with dem in charge

Allow the Dems and their media to scream for the Epstein info then release the real info that they haven’t tampered

Cut off media funding from the govt. let it crumble

Boost the economy to show what will happen

Stop the invasion

Stop pretending leftists run the country. Stop pretending their ideas are popular

Trust and support Trump. Don’t be discouraged by detractors They have no purpose

Trump is already doing this

It is incredibly difficult to wage a battle of ideas using words and images when the side which opposes you DOMINATES the legacy MSM, Social Media, and Hollywood.

The members of one of the 2 parties in our 2-party system have been living in a feedback-looped echo chamber. They echo the same party message to each other like parrots, and then the feedback loop tells them they've done a virtuous thing. Sometimes the feedback loop reminds them that criticizing the party and its radical Left message is forbidden.

This is a surefire recipe for insanity. And that's what they are.

Bat guano crazy.

Part of the problem is brand differentiation. Remember all the complaints about the "uniparty"? That, I think, is a big part of the problem.

There's also the summaries. "Republicans are the party of the rich" versus "Democrats are the party of the Unions." The messaging has not been convincing that the two political parties have swapped sides. Look at the message from the Democrats about the Big Beautiful Bill: the ol' benefit-the-rich argument. Never mind that the Democrats have extremely deep pockets actively influencing the voters, far more than conservative peers.

It's going to take a while for the new view to take hold. Maybe when The View and late night "comics" finally depart off this mortal coil, the old messages will die.

What’s wrong with Americans?

They are being feed bad info by their preferred media outlets. Everyone reads the side they want to believe and ignores the side they don’t believe.

Die-hard Democrats. I go to lunch with some old friends from high school (50+ years ago). They don’t agree with the Democrat party on issues, like, “should males be allowed to play in female sports?”, yet they’ll vote Democrat every time.

Yeah, and if you believed polls, even one’s done by Rasmussen, Kamala would be president right now. Truth is and has always been, that republican voters hang up on pollsters.

No, a few pollsters had Kamala losing and Rasmussen was indicating it as well. I was following Rasmussen and others quite closely during the last several weeks of the election cycle and had a good feeling Trump was going to win.
