The gunman double-parked outside the tower at 345 Park Avenue, strode into the lobby with a cheap AR-15-style rifle, and killed three people, including an off-duty police officer. He took an elevator to the 33rd floor and fatally shot a final victim before turning the gun on himself. The episode was over in minutes.
Despite New York’s stringent gun laws and the office building’s tight security, law enforcement officials and legal experts said, the shooting — the deadliest in New York City in 25 years — may have been all but unstoppable.
New York has one of the world’s most sophisticated surveillance networks and the resources to deploy a massive police response, said Brittney Blair, an associate managing director of K2 Integrity, a risk-management and investigative firm.
But a piecemeal network of looser regulations nationwide enabled a lone gunman with no criminal history to drive undetected across several states on his way to the city.
“It feels impossible to stop something like this,” Ms. Blair said.
...Beginning last week, the gunman, Shane Devon Tamura, 27, who lived in Nevada, drove through several states, including Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa and New Jersey, before arriving in Midtown Manhattan, his BMW filled with ammunition.
...“Once somebody has a gun and is determined to do what this guy did, unless you turn the city into an armed camp — and even then it’s a question — it is very hard to stop them,”

Because derp, derp, derp, dummies.
The headline tells the entire story with no need to read any further
No Gun Zones are sanctuary zones for killers.
Much like socialism will only supposedly “work” if its imposed on everybody by force - lest there be a counter example, so gun control will only “work” once its imposed on everybody everywhere. At least according to the NY Times.
Just like prohibition did not stop people from drinking alcohol, gun control will never stop Americans from having guns. Its a right the people have had for centuries, its deeply ingrained in the culture, people simply are not going to give up their guns - let alone criminals and lunatics who aren’t going to give up their guns.
Tap dancing around adults (and most especially, children) with problems does neither them, nor society at large, any good.
Also, getting realistic about what contributes to these problems (MSM) would be a giant step in the right direction. Mom needs to stop using the TV for a babysitter.... start THERE!!
That is correct, which is why we need to ban all guns, everywhere.

Well, duh!
“Understand one thing……You can make laws against weapons but they will be observed only by those who don’t intend to use them anyway. The lawless can always smuggle or steal, or even make a gun. By refusing to wear a gun you allow the criminal to operate with impunity.” - Louis L’Amour
Laws codify behavior for decent people. Citizens. They are a social agreement on how we will treat each other. Criminals are those who violate the law and do not treat citizens by the code. Therefore, you cannot make a law that a criminal will follow. Not following the law is the definition of a criminal. Gun laws are an insane attempt to force criminals to be decent people. The corollary is gun laws allow criminals to safely predate on citizens.
That is part of the solution.
We also need to turn back to our savior Christ the Lord.
With God in this man's life he would have had hope.
We also need to return to a society that believes in personal responsibility.
Our society has become one where someone else is always at fault for our problems and we need to make them pay.
I like your tag-line.
Hochul is blaming the state the gum and came from instead of ad itting that her state’s strict gun laws did NOTHING to prevent the shooting. Infant, her state’s gun laws ENABLED the shooting because noone was armed who could retaliate and stop the gunman. The gunman took out the only one with a gun, the cop. Then proceeded to shoot others knowing the threat to his life was over. She and her ilk enable cr8minals and tie the hands to legal citizens pr3venting them from defending themselves!
“The cops are there for your safety, they are all you need to be safe” the left tell us- BS! The cops were far away WHILE THE SHOOTING WAS GOING ON! They were nowhere in sight after the one cop was murdered by the gunman! The death of the victims, and wounds of the victims all lie at hochul and ilk’s feet! Eat happened had NOTHING to do with the state that the fella came from and their gun laws. Hochul’s state FAILED to prevent mass tragedy!
That’s because if you ban citizens from having guns to protect themselves, only nut jobs, criminals, and terrorists will have guns because they don’t G.A.S.!
And hochul disgraceful tried to pawn the blame off on another state- what a shameful thing to do!
When seconds count, the police will arrive in minutes.
There is no reliable, sure way to protect yourself, or anybody, from a bold assault by a highly focused perpetrator.
But a vigilant watch for known miscreants, together with swift incarceration and appropriate sentencing, goes far in breaking up whatever organization has chosen criminal activity as a business model.
Well, they did not stop Mark David Chapman from carrying out his horrible and senseless act of killing John Lennon in December 1980. If my memory serves me correctly, Chapman even legally bought firearms in Hawaii where there had been waiting periods on lawful firearms acquisitions since the 1930s.
Prevent?
New York's strict and unconstitutional gun laws contributed to the shooting - the perp knew he would almost certainly be facing unarmed victims all the way into the building, and that the few who were armed would be easily identified as security or police officers.
I know what the problem was, there weren’t enough “Gun Free Zone” signs outside the building.
In Chicongo, restrictive firearms laws & regulations, dozens of shootings each week. Wonder why, hmm...
