Wells, like many U.S. tourist spots that rely on foreign labor, is fearful of immigration raids. The local police department’s agreement to collaborate with federal agents only adds to the anxiety.
“No ICE in our community,” read a cardboard sign held by a resident, Daria Cullen. “Fight ignorance, not immigrants,” read another. Many drivers honked and waved approvingly. A smaller number of drivers seemed to feel otherwise, flipping the finger at the protesters.

I mean, "a smaller number of drivers"? What, did David Goodman count the cars?
If they depend of illegal labor in their business, then they are the problem. I LOVE ICE raids. Deport Every Illegal. Now. Hurry up ICE. Go for it.
There are no IMMIGRATION raids
There are illegal alien raids...
Stop ALL immigration PERIOD. Watch wages go up and welfare go down.

The SMARTEST move ever made by those that want to EXTINGUISH Western Society was to let women vote and hold office. I realize it’s not every woman, particularly here, but it is enough to tip things over, especially considering the cucks that are forced to follow these women, or get nothing.
If they would like to be “immigrants”, they might try obeying the law and follow the legal process, including criminal background checks, health checks, weapons, drugs and gang affiliation checks at a designated border station and possibly wait for approval.
Otherwise they are just foreign nationals, not immigrants.
... And they would have no reason to fear ICE.
Thinking and believing are actually irrelevant. In the face of the President Trump ICE MAGA onslaught, writing whining articles is all our leftist enemies have left.
They leftist enemies are powerless to actually resist.
Housing costs will go down too. All of a sudden any responsible young Americans will be able to marry and raise a family on one income.
I can see some of the National Parks needing to rely on foreign labor, specifically Eastern European girls that gravitate to the travel agencies that promote such jobs. I have met such young ladies (very seldom guys) in National Parks across the US, but especially in the Western parks.
And yet, they never seem to go home.
They get married, go off grid, come into contact with the Mafia from the olde country.
But they never seem to go home.
And who runs (and owns) these lucrative travel agencies that staff all of these lonely National Parks across the US?
"...a resident, Daria Cullen" is a Democrat activist.
Daria Cullen is a co-founder and core member of the Southern Maine for Racial Justice advocacy group which organizes for racial and economic justice throughout York County. Daria is also a Maine Prisoner Advocacy Coalition (MPAC) volunteer, Wabanaki Alliance Legislative Coalition member, and manages the production of Justice Radio airing statewide on WMPG, WERU, and WMHB.
What part of “illegal immigrant” is hard to understand?
If we choose to be a nation of laws, law breakers must be brought to justice, not left to serve the well to do while collecting below market wages.
Jim,
Again we have clear evidence that a subservient force of second class guest workers is shat they want.
Once again, the NYT comes down on the wrong side of the issue. It amazes me that we support illegal foreign nationals while we still have US kids going to bed hungry and US vets are homeless. Yet, the NYT depicts illegals as the victim. Illegals drain US resources away from US citizens. Enough! I wish ICE all the best in their efforts.
Exactly
Maine has a low population because they can foster few jobs. So to fix that, they support illegal laborers to fill those few they have. People living in Maine might be really stupid.
Its all about cheap labor and spoiled young people. When was the last time you saw a college student working a summer job? Rather than work in a resort town or do landscaping in the hot sun, they use federally subsidized student “loans” and travel the world.
The people in Maine are smart enough to live near the coast.
Most of the entire state is not inhabited
“like many U.S. tourist spots that rely on foreign labor”
Their need for labor corresponds closely to the availability of college students needing money to pay for college.
