Five Canadian ice hockey players accused of sexually assaulting a woman have all been acquitted by an Ontario judge in a case that has been closely watched in Canada.
In a packed courtroom on Thursday, Justice Maria Carroccia reviewed testimony and evidence from the eight-week trial over several hours before declaring the men not guilty.
The former players for Canada's world junior hockey team were accused of assaulting the woman, known as EM, in a hotel room in 2018 in London, Ontario, where they had been attending a Hockey Canada gala.
Justice Carroccia said she did not find EM's evidence "credible or reliable", and that "the Crown cannot meet its onus on any of the counts".
The players are Michael McLeod, Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, Alex Formenton and Carter Hart, and all were with the National Hockey League (NHL) when the allegations surfaced, although one was playing in Europe.
In a statement on Thursday, the league said they remain "ineligible" to playin the NHL pending a review of the judge's findings.
The players declined to speak to the media after the decision and their lawyers each offered statements on their behalf.
Lawyer David Humphrey, who represented Mr McLeod, said that his client is relieved.
"For years, public perception was shaped by a one-sided narrative", Mr Humphrey said, adding that the damage to Mr McLeod's career and reputation "has been significant".

The accuser's accusations were judged to be unreliable but not before she ruined the careers of young hockey players.
This reminds us of the Duke Lacrosse case. Stephen Miller was a student at Duke defending the lacrosse team almost 20 years ago.
The media is still pounding the players.
It’s OK when Moslems do it.
Sounds like the Duke Lacrosse team.
I just posted that this was reminiscent of the Duke Lacrosse team, before I saw your comment. Thanks for the info about Stephen Miller being at Duke at the time and defending them back when he had hair. The man is amazing.
It’s different than the Duke case in that the things the woman said happened did happen.
That was not in question.
“Justice Carroccia said she did not find EM’s evidence “credible or reliable”, and that “the Crown cannot meet its onus on any of the counts”.
The charges were brought only because Canada’s junior hockey paid the woman. Before that the prosecutors knew they had no case. After that they were playing to the PC crowd.
The Flyers could use Carter Hart back in goal.
Not credible that she did not consent, as she claimed.
There’s no denial that the sexual activity took place.
Just stop talking about things you don’t know anything about.
“… woman, known as EM…”
Now that they’ve been found not guilty, why is their accuser not identified?
“ The media is still pounding the players.”
They did act like sleaze bags.
It’s not like Duke lacrosse where it was all fabricated.
Okay Mommy.
I’m not sure what the point of your response was with respect to my comment.
It’s non sequitur.
Mommy gives good advice.
If you say so Mommy.
Guys...be aware of the fact that taking sexual liberties with the “easy” woman is not a smart idea. You will be open to charges of rape, paternity, criminal abuse, lawsuits, STD, jealous pimp or boyfriend, etc.
All parties to this case are pure idiots.
We are talking about not just athletes but hockey players — which very nearly makes them idiots by definition.
The sad reality is that this goes on in many stratas of current society. A lot of this is sex hormonal driven, but that is no excuse for irresponsible behaviour. An angry boyfriend or husband wanting to murder those guys is sex hormonal driven also. He won’t spare those guys....
