"We're thinking about a little rebate," Trump said Friday before leaving on his trip to Scotland.

President Donald Trump told reporters that the administration was considering rebate checks for Americans based on tariff revenue.

"We're thinking about a little rebate," Trump said Friday before leaving on his trip to Scotland. "But the big thing we want to do is pay down debt. But we're thinking about a rebate."

He added that the rebate checks would be "for people of a certain income level," but didn't go into any details, according to CBS News.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said during an interview with Fox Business that the federal government has already collected about $100 billion in tariff revenue.

He said that the revenue could increase to $300 billion per year. This comes after the administration announced higher tariffs on certain countries earlier this year.

Shore up the SS fund. Buy back all the T-bills in the “lock box”.

I’m a little worn out on income based giveaways.

Whenever the government cuts checks, I fail to receive one. Whatever. I have no control and no voice.

Why not pay off debt?

Set an example for everyone and be responsible with the money.

Agreed. I am sick and tired of everything being ‘means tested’— another form of mini-socialism.

After the last four years of paying twice the price for most food items, I could use a little relief.

Pay off highest interest debt.

And end H1B and similar anti-American worker programs. Weekly paychecks are better than occasional government handouts.

I agree but a few hundred dollars to everyone that filed tax returns would give him enormous gravitas among certain people who want to see proof.

“Shore up the SS fund....”

Exactly!
I’m hearing that SS will have to reduce payments in 7 years. Why not use windfalls like this to accomplish something constructive instead of throwing tiny rebates to the masses for instant -but short- political gain?

$600 rebate checks for Americans who make less than $100,000.

Nice extra money but it won't be too bad so we won't cause too much inflation.

People who make over $100,000 tend to be wealthy coastal elite who vote for the Democratic Party.

I agree. Shore up SS. Pay down the debt. Every little bit helps.

Sending “rebates” to people would be inflationary. But, handing nickels to the peons has worked for ages. Why stop now.

I would rather see the money used to pay down the federal debt....absolutely not for expanded entitlement programs.

However, giving such a rebate to “US Citizens” would destroy the MSM’s credibility. After all the MSM and their chosen “economists” kept saying what a disaster tariffs were and how this was a tax on consumers.

Go Trump.....the winning keeps amazing people.

I thought the same thing, but then I had a second thought.

Sending checks to Americans is stimulative...

And when the consumers spend more, there is more economic activity, and with more economic activity, more jobs are created, and with more jobs and people working, more tax paying jobs will result in a lot more tax revenue collected, which will more than offset the checks from the tariffs.

It takes money to make money, and the tariffs can be the stimulative trigger for a lot more economic activity.

The Biden years wrecked us. Inflation is accumulative...like 20%+ under Biden.

It will take a little time to get us back on track.

Redistribution by another name. Steal money from businesses and then cut checks to people who didn’t earn it. Sounds like a typical democrat scheme.
