Were the air traffic controllers asleep or DEI?
The stories have said the flight was only in the air 6 - 10 minutes but some passengers flew out of their seats and hit the ceiling. What the hell were they doing without their seatbelts on? I get that at cruising altitude there are reasons to move around the cabin (like to go to the bathroom) but just a few minutes in, why were they unbuckled. I keep my seatbelt on unless there is a good reason not to.
Oh the drama!! Reads like it is written by a flamer.
This is why you always leave your seatbelt buckled.
The different scenarios (as-written, as-summarized from the quotes, as-happened from the actual quotes) and the time sequence make no sense at all.
Time of flight (passengers not belted in ?) and amounts of fall, times of the 500 foot drop do not match up with “the real world” - particularly during the first minutes of a flight.
So?
This is why you hire pilots and not uber drivers.
I was on a 757 out of Denver and we hit turbulence that dropped us 400 feet twice. I was sitting at the door 2 jumpsuit facing the cabin and I’ll never forget this guy across from me who rose out of his seat, eyes wide as saucers. He had his seatbelt on, fortunately, but it was loose. He was hanging on to his laptop also. The captain had given us plenty of warning that it would be bad, so fortunately we weren’t up yet and no one was hurt.

I caught that too. Been on Southwest a lot...you’re lucky if they let you out of your seat in the first 30 minutes of the flight. From really short flights, like LA to Vegas, in this case, they typically will never shut off the seat belt light.
It’s OK, they still got a little plastic bag with 1.2 ounces of pretzels.
Does anyone else find it odd that the second plane wasn’t even identified by type, but the fact that the first plane was Southwest was stressed repeatedly?
A British fighter jet was involved?! WTH??
Didn’t you hear the news?? We are at war with Britain. That jet fighter was built in 1959. They must be running out of modern planes.

They should thank their pilot....and go after either the ATC folks or the other pilot....
Hopefully the air traffic controller responsible will be selling oranges and flowers on the road medians by next week.
:-)
I was almost in a mid-air collision once. I estimate that we missed the other plane by about 30 yards, which flew directly underneath us at a 90-degree angle.
