Gas Prices Plummet to New Lows Under Trump
Daily Signal ^ | July 18, 2025 | Elizabeth Troutman Mitchell |

Posted on 07/19/2025 5:23:44 PM PDT by george76

Gas prices often increase in the summer as more motorists hit the road, but this year’s pump prices have dropped to match the summer of 2021, the last time seasonal gas prices were this low.

The national average is down about 3 cents per gallon from last week, returning to the price from a month ago, $3.16. One year ago, gas prices were at $3.574. Gas prices were also at a four-year low on Independence Day.

The White House is attributing the phenomenon to President Donald Trump’s energy agenda, which Energy Secretary Chris Wright told The Daily Signal can be summarized as making it “easier to build energy-production capacity and stop subsidizing stuff that’s not been helpful.”

“Prices at the pump keep dropping, thanks to President Trump unleashing American energy,” White House assistant press secretary Taylor Rogers told The Daily Signal. “President Trump ended Joe Biden’s reckless war on American energy, and he’s making life more affordable for families as a result.”

Trump signed an executive order on Day One in office to speed up the completion of energy projects through emergency measures. The order read in part that “agencies shall identify and use all lawful emergency or other authorities available to them to facilitate the supply, refining, and transportation of energy in and through the West Coast of the United States, Northeast of the United States, and Alaska.”

He also signed an order encouraging energy exploration and production on federal lands and waters, including on the outer continental shelf.

Sigh... $5.59/gallon regular and $5.79/gallon premium in my area (SF peninsula in CA). Seems to be going up as long as Newsom is governor.

No they most certainly have not! In central Indiana they’re up to $3.39 and higher in many places. Sorry folks, I voted for Trump and all, but that article is a bold face lie.

It was still stuck at $3.39 in Maricopa County, AZ, as of yesterday thanks to California gas and MC additional fees and special blend for the summer.

When I first started driving a car, at age 16, gas was 32 cents a gallon.

The summer urban blend is higher in the Metroplex (where we still have annual car inspections) than it is in the free zones of Texas. Most of the prices around here are $2.79 - $2.85. Costco and Sams cheaper of course, with some impact on stations near each. Looks like some out 78 northeast of the PGBT $2.53 - $2.65 but that’s a bit far for me to go to save a few cents on a tank. On the other hand, the most expensive gas in the area is frequently at the corner of Knox and the Southbound 75 frontage road near Highland Park. I expect it’s well over $3.00.

$3.18 today at convenience stores near Interstate highway exits in the PA midstate....back to where we were at Christmas 2024.

Not as good as the $2.49 of the CoupFlu summer but a vast improvement from the $4.34 of 2022.

Sacramento area of Kalifornia, regular gas is $4.45 and up to $5+ per gallon and from what is being reported, gas is predicted to go up to $8 due to three of Kalifornia’s oil refineries closing next year.

Actually Gas prices here have never gone below where they were when Trump took office. And they are higher than that every since the Iran ordeal. They never came all the way back down from that. Not by very much, but great gas price fall never happened in my area of the country. Never gone below 2.99

I remember the 30 cent something days, but by the time I started driving it as in the 80’s.

Then the painful jump under Jimmuh to around $1.25 when I started driving.

Big jump to $1.87 when I bought a Detroit diesel in 1985 but that was 30+ mpg until the heads blew.

That’s the other side of town, since I live in extreme SE Mesa. Pretty much everything around here is $3.39 except Costco.
