WASHINGTON/NEW YORK, July 18 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump sued the Wall Street Journal and its owners including Rupert Murdoch for at least $10 billion on Friday, over the newspaper's report that his name was on a 2003 birthday greeting for Jeffrey Epstein that included a sexually suggestive drawing and a reference to secrets they shared.
The lawsuit filed in Miami federal court names Murdoch, Dow Jones, News Corp
(NWSA.O) and its Chief Executive Robert Thomson, and two Wall Street Journal reporters as defendants, saying they defamed Trump and caused him to suffer "overwhelming" financial and reputational harm.
Epstein, the disgraced financier and sex offender, died by suicide in a New York jail cell in 2019.
His case has generated conspiracy theories that became popular among Trump's base of supporters who believed the government was covering up Epstein's ties to the rich and powerful.
Trump has said he parted ways with Epstein before the financier's legal troubles became public in 2006.
The president has vehemently denied the Journal report, which Reuters has not verified, and had warned Murdoch that he planned to sue. Dow Jones, the parent of the newspaper, is a division of News Corp.
"We have just filed a POWERHOUSE Lawsuit against everyone involved in publishing the false, malicious, defamatory, FAKE NEWS 'article' in the useless 'rag' that is, The Wall Street Journal," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
"I hope Rupert and his 'friends' are looking forward to the many hours of depositions and testimonies they will have to provide in this case," Trump added.
A spokesperson for Dow Jones said in...

I am not overflowing with optimism, but I see the possibility that Trump is lining up 2026 to be a year of constant scandal exposure, revealing to the voting public just how dirty the Democrats have been playing politics. The mid-terms might conceivably go extremely well for us. On the other hand, maybe I’ll just be disappointed. I’m kind of used to that.
I hope Trump puts the globalist WSJ out of business. It would serve them right for publishing this probably phony story.
interesting that WSJ prints an article that accuses trump on sending esptein a questionable birthday card............and trump sues WSJ & Murdock for $11 billion........
tulsi declasses december Oval Office meeting with obama, corney, clapper & jihadi john that accuses the group with treason, and..................crickets from the cabal.
I want to see Trump also sue Obama and Clapper
I’ll accept Trump at his word that it’s fake. It just doesn’t “sound” like him at all. Even if it’s real, I agree with what appears to be the largest opinion: it’s no big deal
That said, as I constantly say on this forum, the number attached to the complaint is pulled right out of the air and doesn’t have any relationship to what might actually be recovered. As a relic of when CA was a sane state, in CA state actions the law bars the complaint from reciting the amount of demand, beyond stating whether it is more or less than $25K
Probably leaked from Comey’s daughter. Maybe why she was fired. Also, according to Roger Stone her office may have “poison pilled” the Epstein files under her control.
Can wait until all these folks are prosecuted.
Thanks E. Now we get to scrape Rooters off our shoes with a stick.
Rush Limbaugh used to talk about Reuters articles all the time. Did you need to scrape your shoes when he did?
$9 billion and not a penny less.
Gosh, nobody expected that, or did they? The naked devil appeared to them. The truth is, those idiots will never learn.
Please send a note when Trump sits for a deposition, most unlikely.
And if Trump attempts to drag it out, just about when he leaves office, watch for the countersuit to pay for WSJ legal expenses.
NB: Just yesterday J.D. Vance demanded the release of the document Trump claims not to exist???
How does that work???
I’m not over flowing with optimism either but I could easily see a vengeful Trump taking his time and lining up in a year or two for prosecution, a few cases involving as many of the top malevolents that plotted against him . He’s gotta be mad as hell at some level. Hell they tried to kill him.
Good. The MSM is running with this. It’s actually on CBS News right now.
I’ve heard nothing about this mentioned on FOX “News.”
Can’t imagine why. sarc/
The WSJ was a great paper until Rupert Murdoch purchased it.
