Inside Poland’s plan to protect itself from Putin

It is clear we are being watched.

Authorities have already stopped our car twice as we approach the heavily fortified border, via back roads.

As one guard reminds us while inspecting our IDs, we are a long way off the tourist trail.

Tensions are high here, where Poland and Russia intersect. It is — literally — a clash of worlds.

To one side, democracy, NATO and the European Union. On the other? Vladimir Putin’s increasingly aggressive and expansionist regime.

Some people are concerned this remote region could be the Russian president’s next target, perhaps after the conclusion of his war in Ukraine.

Poland’s government is not taking any chances, spending up big on a suite of measures aimed to deter its hostile neighbour from launching an attack.

Lieutenant Iwona Misiarz is involved in the preparations and agreed to show us what is being done to prevent this frontier becoming a front line.

“To put it bluntly,” she begins, “if they try to bite us, they’ll break their teeth”.

Poland’s 232-kilometre border with Russia’s Kaliningrad region is an exclave — a geographical quirk that means it is separated from the rest of the country’s territory.

As maps were redrawn amid the Soviet Union’s dissolution in the early 90s, it became surrounded by Poland, Lithuania and the Baltic Sea.

Getting to Moscow now requires a journey of more than 1,000km, and crossing two foreign countries.

Despite its isolation, the territory remains a vital military, shipping and economic centre for the Kremlin today.

How can Putin be supposedly getting his lunch handed to him and also be “increasingly aggressive and expansionistic”? If he can’t defeat Ukraine (in whatever form defeating them might take), then he certainly can’t take on Poland too. More bogeyman journalism?

Putin already tried to capture one county (Ukraine) with a worthless military. What makes you think he won’t try again?? I t is not bogeyman journalism. They are reporting on the propaganda that Putin’s mouth pieces spew every day on Russia TV. And if you really don’t know about that Ivan, you don’t read enough.

To one side, democracy, NATO and the European Union. On the other? Vladimir Putin’s increasingly aggressive and expansionist regime.

On one side, a genuinely popular elected leader who fights for and cares about his people, Vladimir Putin. On the other side, corrupt European Union autocrats busying themselves banning political parties, banning political leaders, arresting thousands for speech violations, all while cosplaying as "democracy."

Maybe because Poland is in NATO and any attack will necessarily involve the US, Britain and France. All nuclear armed. Russia’s encounter with the US by proxy (Wagner) ended up in a completely destroyed Wagner and zero US casualties.

How is Russia threatening Poland, other than to oppose Poland’s support for Zelenky? Poland has nothing needed by Russia, and Russia is too involved in the Ukraine to launch an aggressive war in Europe.

You might want to look to the Swiss for some guidance.

Arm every swinging **** in country over 18 with a rifle and 1,000 rounds of ammo. Hold shooting contests monthly with prizes and recognition for the winners. Train your women, too. They can shoot better than men sometimes.

Form a cadre of retired military to run voluntary weekend training with cash allowances for showing up.

Poland doesn’t need to be worried about being invaded by Russia. what it should worry about is that if WW III breaks out Poland will be the front lines.

Poland is nicknamed “Little European Texas” for a reason. They’re buying as much military hardware as possible.

Poland has been raped many times by Germany and Russia. Taking no chances now is very wise.

Never mind waiting till they are 18...

When I was in high school, 1947-1951, most of the students (boys & girls) brought their own guns to school on the 2-days-per week when the boys’ school-sponsored shooting club and the girls’ school-sponsored shooting club were scheduled...

They’d better worry more about the invasion from the West.

Russia will always be a threat to Russia. Please read the history of Russia and Poland for the last 80 years.

Poland needs to worry about Germany, who is currently conducting an invasion of Poland.

Germany is sending their “migrants” to Poland and the EUSSR traitor Donald Tusk is assisting in the invasion.

Germany and the EUSSR are much more dangerous threats to Poland than Russia.

“”””Poland doesn’t need to be worried about being invaded by Russia. what it should worry about is that if WW III breaks out Poland will be the front lines.””””

That is why President Trump permanently moved American troops forward from Germany to Poland.

“President Trump permanently moved American troops forward from Germany to Poland.”

Yeah, put them right on the front lines. I don’t consider that a positive move.
